I am just discovering the world of tea (I am a coffee 'addict' that's branching out) and came across this site. I am enjoying all of my teas but some suggestions regarding the Tea Timer software. First, it should have a selectable alarm noise (the 'ding' isn't always audible on my PC). Second, it would be nice if it had an area for personal ratings of the teas. As I work through my range of samples, it would be nice if I could record my impressions in the software so I knew what to order in the future. Finally, a notes section would be nice so users could record measurements, etc. for themselves. I think that the software and the service are fabulous and, for the money (free), the tea timer offers tremendous value but, for another hour or two of programming, I think it could be 'perfect'.

There is an option that allows you to set a custom sound for this event - I unfortunately am not on my home computer, otherwise I'd access the Tea Timer program and give you instructions on how to reach it. I know I can change the sound for all of Windows but it would be nice to change it for just the timer. I have also noticed that the inventory of the software is a little dated and the categories no longer reflect the categories on the site (i.e., there is one Rooibos and its listed as a Herbal tea whereas the site now lists Rooibos as a category and offers several different kinds). This is so close to being the perfect way to facilitate and educate newbies like me in the art of tea.
Just to complete the list of pickiness, it would be good if the data (and summary list) gave time and temperature rather than just red or green drops. I understand that there are a few temperatures that are recommended and individuals may adjust to taste so why not capture this somehow?
Again, great site, great service, great product, good timer (especially for free) so please take all of this in the manner in which it is intended--as suggestions for improvement

Sorry - I wasn't clear. You can actually change the sound specifically for the Tea Timer. When I get home tonight, I'll look at it myself and type the instructions for doing this.

Open tea timer. Click on options. Where it says "Play sound" click on browse and pick the sound you want played.

I have the same problem David (Guest) has. TeaTimer doesn't appear to remember my settings after I exit. When using it, it does seem that it remembers the alarm sound chosen, but it keeps turning on "Shortcut on Desktop" which I don't want on. I prefer to access almost all of my programs through the Start Menu, not icons on the desktop. I think there's some bug in the program that hasn't been fixed.
As indicated, you can modify the descriptions if you want. Select a tea, then click Properties. You can change everything there -- name, category, brew time, water temperature, description. When I did a test now, changing a brew time, on exit it warned me that the tea list had changed and asked if I wanted to save it. Also note the New and Remove buttons which ought to meet any other customization needs you have. I don't see support for your particular inventory, either through a separate tea list or by selecting some subset of the tea list (e.g., through a tag you could set). I suppose you *could* remove everything from the list that you don't own, but I don't think that's the best option. Usually I just look through my teas when I'm deciding on what to drink, but if I wanted a list, I think I'd just write it out on paper and keep that handy.

An officemate of mine figured out how to get it to save the sound. You have to edit the properties of a tea or add a new one when you change the sound. When you exit, it will ask if you want to save the changes. If you click on "Yes", it will save the modified/added tea and the new sound. In order to use a different sound, you would then have to also add or modify a tea to get it to save again.
If you uncheck the "shortcut on Desktop" under "options" it will not put it back after you add or edit a tea and will remember it (only if you have just added or edited a tea.)

Hmm, having to modify the tea list to get options saved isn't the ideal way of doing things, but if it works, I can deal with that.
Is there any chance of Adagio releasing a new version with a new default tea list? I just made a cup of Valentine's tea and saw that it wasn't in the list. So I started looking and noticed a few others weren't in there including Christmas, Golden Monkey, and Lemon Grass. I didn't go through my whole inventory yet, but I'm going to have to add a number of them in the list to use the program for the teas I currently own. I'll do it later though. steep timers.
Why would you need a timer? if, you are using a quality tea the steep time does not matter. Steep them all day! does not matter.

Not true. The longer the leaves are in the water, the stronger the tea will get - to the point it gets bitter. Look, for example, to dye bleeding into water. The longer the dye is in the water, the darker it gets. If you've had tea where you can steep it all day and not notice a difference, likely there wasn't much to the tea. As in, the tea didn't have enough to give to the water it was placed in.
