Pu Packages

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

I was wondering what you thought of the Gong Ting Tribute Ripe cake. I still have a bit of that left. I really liked it...it was smooth and not overly fermented. If you like that I would also recommend the 2007 Guoyan * Gold Peacock of Menghai * Ripe Pu-erh.

I have only brewed one session of it and my conclusion in the notes is simply: "Good shu, nothing extraordinary, but good." With only one session to go by, that opinion may change, but I tend feel that most shu is pretty similar. I also tend to like the darker, heavier ones more than the lighter subtle ones. I love the 2007 Haiwan 9908 Old Nugget Puerh Tea Brick which I got from Puerhshop where it is now out of stock. I have ordered another one from Scott, however, who does still have it in stock. Another nice one is Wesli's discovery of 2000 Big Golden Melon Tuocha, also now out of stock at Puerhshop.

I have been reviewing the several Menghai shu that I bought last year (#0536 (yr 2005 and 2007), #7562 (yr 2005), and 2005 Golden Needle White Lotus) and beginning to think that I don't care that much for the Menghai products. This is especially disappointing because it was their excellent rep that prompted me to buy them. Oh well, my tastes change and the tea changes. Maybe we will meet in a good place at some time in the future.

Thanks for asking my opinion. It sounds like Tree may have more experience with this mini cake. If he doesn't respond in the thread, PM him to wake him up.

I agree. It's a good one. Oily feel in the early infusions, aromatic, pearlike flavor. It needs a couple more years aging to take the roughest edges off, but I found myself drinking the last few infusions (of ten) more for the aftertaste than anything.

i'm having some now as i am typing this, two flash infusions, then a 10 sec steeping for the first drink, and i am not mistaken, great great taste in the mouth, no bitterness. imagine the smoothness after some years up in the attic?

i also recommend this from mengku, i had some samples that blew me away, i am talking about the 2006 brick. there is a 2007 cake for the same blend.

i have tasted the brick, and there is this lingering cinnamon taste that is out of this world. damn! i am about to get the cake though, hate the mess it makes when you have to hack into bricks. not my fun thing to do on a nice sunday morning.
