A menthol/mint taste?
Hey All,
Still a Pu newbie here. I've tried about 5 different Shu so far and the latest one, Upton's China Classic, has a distinct menthol or mint (for lack of a better word) taste. Is this taste something common in Pu-erh or is it a defect? In all honesty, I kind of like it. It goes well with the earthy flavors...
Thanks,
EW

Well call it camphor. Found more often in pu-erh made from old wild trees. Supposedly caused by the camphor trees that grow amongst these pu-erh trees.

Diddo. Is it a shu or a sheng. If it is a shu, I must admit that I have personally never tasted a shu that had any camphor profile. Interesting.

Who knows? It's listed as organic under Upton's webpage.
I really like it though. It's inexpensive, has a different flavor profile than others and so far I hadn't found any bug in it like I have another inexpensive shu. Once I make myself order some more, I think it'll be the perfect "work" tea that I'll enjoy and not have to obsess over.
Thanks for the replies. Wish I had ordered more than a 15g sample...
