Omegapd suggested a Show off your Tattoo Thread, I thought it was a great idea, and after a brief discussion with the Mods about the logistics of possible "inappropriate" tattoos, we have a green light.

Rules for this thread: Please provide links to your photographs and do not post pictures directly to the thread. If you have a tattoo that is "inappropriate," please state that in your post. This way we can all share our tattoos, no matter how violent or pornograhic, without offending anyone.

Now, lets see some ink.

I don't know if this is a permissible post, since it's not my tattoo (so mods, please remove if you like), but...

I did find a really cool green tea-themed tattoo online:

Thanks for help getting us started, Chamekke. I don't see any reason the discussion has to be limited to tatoos on our own bodies. I think it would be great to include tea related ink. It does help legitmize this threads existance on the forum. :wink:

This is my first one:

I got this one earlier this year.

As some of you will know, its the Japanese Hiragana for rain, ame. It refers to a passage from the Hagakure that I read in the year after my father died. Not only did it help me get through that difficult time, it also summed up a lot of what he had tried to teach me. It serves as a reminder to me about the importance of staying positive. Since then I have come to think that things wont just work out for the best, but if you look on the brightside, stay positive, and take everything as a learning experience and move on, then things will most likely work out for you. This in turn has helped steer me through my recent divorce.

This is my second one, which I started yesterday.

Its just the outline, I'll go back for color and shading in about a month. This is the picture it came from; it'll give you and idea of the final product:

It depicts Yu Zhi playiner her quin and riding a dragon over the four seas. Yu Zhin was the daughter of Xingwamu, the Queen Mother of the West. Xingwamu had earlier origins in mythology, but was moved into the Daoist Pantheon as a Goddess of Immortality and Life. Or something like that. The art was done by Nishikawa Sukenobu.

I knew for my second tatoo I wanted something big, colorful, and on my forearm, but I wasn't sure what to get. I also knew I was leaning towards something strictly aesthetic versus personal meaning this time. I saw a Ukiyo e exhibit and fell in love with the work. So I looked through a book I bought at the exhibit till I found something I liked well enough to look at every day.

I have two tattoos, this one is my less favorite of the two. For some reason, I can't find a good photo of my favorite one.

They are dogwoods, and yes dogwoods have personal significance to me. My other tat is also dogwoods. I've been planning for a long time to have some cherry blossoms done on my left delt, but haven't gotten around to it. I also have a drawing of a phoenix that I plan to have done on my left calf. Also on the "someday" list.

I might even be willing to admit that I want a tiny poppet tattoo.

Space, it looks like it'll be a beautiful piece. It also looks very fresh! you'll have to update us on its status.

Alas, I only have plans of getting one soon, but naturally no picture yet because of it. I want to get a black double helix done as an arm band on my upper left arm. Waiting until my piercings are healed up enough and I can feel comfortable dropping the cash on it.

Its great seeing the uniqueness that each of your tattoos have, and the stories behind them.

I have found that it is a very difficult task to take a decent picture of my own ankle, so I'll try to get help later today with that.

I hear you. It was surprisingly challenging to take my avatar pic, i.e. the miniature kyuusu balanced on my thumb. And as body parts go, that's about as accessible as they get.

If you guys were here, I'd photograph your tattoos for you ... :wink:
