forum index descriptions

by wyardley » Aug 25th, '08, 01:15

Maybe this is nit-picky, but it's been bugging me for a while...

Calling puer "The only intentionally aged tea." (the description in the forum index) isn't really correct. Just off the top of my head, other post-fermented teas like Liu'An, Liu Bao, etc. are intentionally aged, as are some oolongs.

Also, I feel like we could do better than "Often served in Chinese restaurants" for the description of oolong tea. How about something like:

"Oolong describes a wide range of semi-oxidized teas, ranging from practically no oxidation or roasting, all the way to almost fully oxidized. Some well known Oolong teas are Tie Guan Yin, Da Hong Pao, Dong Ding, and Oriental Beauty"

I agree. :)

Can there also be a clarification between the two "Other" boards, please? They both have the same description on them, too.

We're big on the "ask and ye shall receive" here. I've gone through and amended several different forum descriptions and given a little more clarification to all three "Other" boards. I limited the descriptions to one line to try to cut back on some of the visual clutter. What do you think?

Thanks! That helps. :)

Is the last Other board for non-tea discussions, then?

Wow are there a lot of forums here or what. I just noticed that the "Other Adagio" is full of feedback, recommendations, and some stuff that belongs in a "How I bru" forum. I'd love to see the forum number go down, and that one might be a good place to start.

It can be tea related or not. We are likely going to change the name so there is less confusion over the "Other."

It used to be much worse, I combined a lot of topics this year. I think Mary and I both agree that we want the forum to look its best while still maintain its functionality. As I look at the forum today, further combining categories is not an easy task.

The Adagio "other" category has 13 pages of topics that would have to be individually moved since they do not universally fit into any one category. It is a good idea though.

Yeah...reshuffling some of the "Other" posts gets to be really old, really quick. It's sort of one of those "rainy day" projects. I'll take a look at some of the threads over the next few days and see what there is to be seen.

Thanx!

FYI, we have moved all the Iced Tea/Food topics to appropriate forums and eliminated that forum.

Also, Yerba Mate is now with Herbals, etc. That forum has been eliminated.

We are currently working on transfering Adagio Other topics to more appropriate forums. Eventually that will be eliminated.

This year, around 8 forums have been eliminated through combining of forums. Mary has also done some nice trimming/rewriting of the Forum descriptions. I think the overall effect is a vast improvement w/out hindering the forum's functionality.

We hope you all agree. :D
