FYI... I got that error too, but when i reloaded the teachat page, the user i was trying to silence was effectively silenced.

Umm... what does the Silence Chatters option do, exactly?

If a chatter is annoying you for whatever reason, you can pick and choose who you want to "silence." You click on this option, all chatters including anons are displayed and you can pick and choose who you want to silence. Once silenced, their IM posts will no longer be displayed on YOUR IM side bar window.

Thank you for the explanation, Chip! That was super-clear.

I was reluctant to just try playing with it in case it was difficult/impossible to turn off. (I don't necessarily mind pressing the red button, but it's nice to know first what it's designed to do  )

BTW, it is temporary. Once you sign off and back on, the chatter is no longer silenced.

You can also manually unsilence as well.
