I too have wondered about the "3" numbered recipies.

Maybe they are batch numbers?

My best guess is that they are recipe numbers. Nan Jian doesn't have a fourth digit factory code that I'm aware of unless I'm mistaken, so it would make sense that their recipe numbers would be three digits long.

I don't think they would be batch numbers. They are probably identifying codes which identify the product for the factory's purposes - Recipe, or leaf grade or quality maybe even identifying which mao cha came from which plantation. Your guess is as good as mine.

901..possibly 99' (or 89) made 1st production. Note 4-digit doesn't show its production date.. just recipe, grade and factory number so 3-digit is shown by side..or was it what you asked?

Just to confirm if I'm not mistaken..

I thought that at first, but that would mean that 902 was made in 1990. The package says 1985.

That's true, but I thought Nan Jian was founded in 85. I just looked it up on Babelcarp and it says that Nan Jian was founded in 1983. This just gets more confusing. Once it gets past 2 minutes of research, I think it's time to e-mail Scott :)

I'm on my way out the door at the moment so it'd be faster if you did. Don't forget to post the results! I'll be checking back with this thread as soon as I get back later.

Now this is getting odd. Anyone who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese care to e-mail Nan Jian? :D Now it feels like we have to get to the bottom of this.

Could they be digits off their "organic" certifications? The $14 price tag seems relatively cheaper than all the rest of the organic products. I wonder....
