1999 Aged Liu An Basket

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

Hi. I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread since Liu An is strictly not Pu-erh, but I've been eying this for a while and wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with this tea?

I dont know much about that stuff, looks very similar to ripe pu. Looks pretty good, although you might even be better off just getting some shu, its cheaper.

I think this is the perfect place to pose your question. I would also like to know how Scott's 1999 basket is.

I have had Jim's 2005 offering and not been very impressed. I am putting it down for long term aging, hoping it will emerge as something wonderful. Bears (who has infinitely more experience than I with Liu An) liked Jim's more than I did.

I think there might be a reason why Pu-Erh is more popular.

I have not tried theses but have had a fair amount of experience with other shu. Almost all shu tastes very similar to each other so though it may seem cheap I bet you will like it. I will probably purchase 1 myself. Alot of tea at a great price.

I've had some really really old Liu an and some much younger. There's a pretty huge difference. The really really old stuff tastes more like river rocks (in a good way) and the younger is pretty bitter and sharp.
