I haven't got it wet yet!
Just finished putting my son to bed, and sending my husband off to work- I may play around with it a bit and start it seasoning in a little while.

What is a pixiu? That's a term/ mythological beastie I haven't heard before.

Very nice pot, eanglin! From what you describe, I am sure it was hand-made using molds. How are you seasoning it?

Boil it for an hour or so in plain water. (Setting on a cotton washcloth to avoid clinking!)
Then allow to cool, change water, reboil, remove from heat, add tea, cover and let sit overnight.

Thanks for the info on The Beastie Tsutsentei - hes a pretty charming little critter in person.

Such a cute sounding name for such an awesome protector!

Kudos on the great pot, Eanglin. My level of respect for Chinese Teapot Gallery has increased immeasurably in the last month of posts about it!

Sounds suspiciously like this little guy...

(Heh, sorry. Wikipedia describes a pixiu here.)

Seeing how huge of a thing pokemon were at the time, I'm a bit surprised to not see anything pokemon themed when it comes to tea. :P

Weird, isn't it.

And yet there's an entire series called Tenorikuma, about coffee-making bears (amazingly, not called bearistas).
