Im putting together a list of pu's to buy from YS and I was wondering if anyone has tried this one or one of the others. If so how is the quality to price ratio?

Thanks.

I got a cake of each mountain too.. Good stuff. And the price is not bad considering that the cakes are 500g.
Looking back in my tasting notes, my fave is probably the Mang Fei, but I'd have to try them all again to make sure.. :)
But I'd say yeah, overall a good buy!

Well I agree its probably what he is trying to move, but he carries alot more that what is in that list. I also did some research on some of the items, and they look pretty solid.

But i do agree that is a loaded question.

Realistically, he is not going to suggest his worst stuff ... he wants happy customers. But also, his tastes -- like everyone's -- are going to be different from yours. While it's good to get Scott's opinion, it is better to get several opinions if you can.

I have dealt with Scott for 3 or so years and find him to be quick to fix mistakes and make good on lost orders. I have a wide range of selections from him from dirt cheap to pretty spendy and have not run into anything horrid.
What more can we ask for besides airfare to Kunming:)?

Point well taken Sal, but I have had bad vendors trying to push their stuff on me not thinking I knew what I was talking about.

Thanks for your feedback hop. Is there anything you would recommend more in that price range?

Dizz...very cool thanks for saying.

Vince...that would be great!

Jeremy I have been looking at a few of those already. I can vouch for the guoyan yi wu zheng shan......it is fantastic. I have heard good things about the queen of yi wu also. I have had good luck with guoyan products. Thanks for posting the list.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I will have said it once and I will say it again, if you are trying to start your own collection, I would start with big factory stuff. I know this sounds counter intuative, but it true. MengHai Dayi, Mengyang Guoyan, and Changtai are 3 of my fave.

a vendor also may try to unload stock that has not been selling well to clear up some space in the warehouse, just a theory.....

I can see both sides of this, but I think that Scott is probably sincere if he offers up a recommendation... plenty of people order who *don't* bother asking Scott what they should order, and of course you'd hope that he thinks most of the teas he sells are pretty good, or he probably wouldn't have bought them in the first place. He needs repeat business, and he doesn't want a bunch of tea forum members and people with web logs to post about how horrible his recommendations are.

That said, taste is very personal, so the fact that Scott likes it doesn't mean that you will like it. On the other hand, he may have a better idea than you of which teas will age well. I have certainly bought things blind on Scott's recommendation, but I don't consider it anything other than a gamble... I'm gambling that some of those cakes will taste good in a long while and / or that they will at least appreciate in value.
