I'm wondering about the making of these cakes. The leaves must have been braided while they were soft...I'm guessing either soon after they were picked or after the pan frying kill green stage. I think probably the latter. The sun drying process must take longer since the leaves are tangled up. I'm also guessing these cakes may contain more water content in them then usual, those resulting in a lighter taste at a very young age. I hope I'm wrong, but I think these cakes will take a lot longer to age to their peak, say 100+ years?

i went on to ten infusions. after that, you barely taste anything. some of you would go on to steep the tea for more sessions but for me , once a definite taste is gone, i am done with it. this tea is different for me at least. the later infusions got lighter, of course. it's a cheap way of trying a braided cake for sure. ys has two other cakes that are braided but not as cheap as this one.Trioxin wrote:That is definitely a cool looking cake. i just had some of this cake by mengyan guoyan, my second favourite tea factory :

the leaves are really long and very dark looking. the brew from the second infusion looks like a dark amber and this is a 2008 cake. the taste of this young cake is very different, there no bitterness from oversteeping this tea. my first infusion was 30 seconds and the brew was not bitter at all. the aftertaste in the mouth is sweet, i detect a hint of sweet honey.
this is going on my list for sure.
lovers of young pu must defo pick this up to add spice to your pu wardrobe.

Another nice review. Although I find it a bit annoying to have to jump back to the first page, I do like the way all those reviews look all lined up there in one spot with the photos at the top.
