Pardon-eh-moi...

Sorry - hate to harp on the lovely instructions that come with teas... but on the back of the handmade says to use 1 tsp of tea. You have to be joking! Have you seen how huge these leaves are? I just went with 5oz of tea for my 6ish oz tetsubin. Does that sound about right? I never brewed tea like this... so... need a little help.

I think I must be close though, I did 5gm tea for 6-7ish oz boiling water, 4 minutes, and it was great! How many brews can you get like this?

Bubba, I absolutely love the Glendale Handmade.

Yesterday I used about 4 tsp. to 16 oz. (to fill my HUGE mug!) so did about twice the recommended amount of leaves. I don't have a scale (yet ... it's at the post office waiting for me to pick it up) so don't know how that compares with the amount you used.

I got four good steeps out of it, maybe could have done five, but it was bedtime. :)

Whatever works is right, but I have usually done 2.5 gr to 6 oz starting at 3 minutes and typically gone 4 or 5 infusions. Sounds like you are approaching gong fu style there, which is a perfectly good alternative.

I eyeball the leaves into a 10oz pot. It is generally enough to cover the bottom of the pot and a little more. For steeping times, I go 2.5 minutes, 4 minutes, 5 minutes, and 6 minutes. Sometimes I get one more steep if the fourth steep doesn't taste weak.

I tried the gaiwan at work today - and it's interesting... I did it gong fu style, for about a 1 minute steep, then 3 minutes for the second, but there was no fruit in the cup. The tetsubin 3 minute steep was much better.

This is an old topic but I enjoy 2nd flush black tea from Nilgiri Korakundha estate FOP. I bought it at the New Mexico tea company. I brew it Western style with 1 teaspoon or 1.25 teaspoons of leaves for 5 minutes. I can get 3 cups or 3 steepings this way. I drink 2 cups and give the other cup to one of my roommates. It makes an excellent morning tea both plain, and with milk or milk and honey.

I don't know anything about Nilgiri teas but I am drinking Chamraj Nilgiri from Harney & Sons and wow it's my perfect tea! I've tried at least 10 common teas (from Adagio and Harney and maybe one other site) and this specific tea is just amazing to me. The flavors are soothing and stimulating at the same time. I do sweeten my tea and add Half & Half and it is the perfect evening and nighttime tea.

Might you know what kind of quality it is? I'm really interested in finding as much as I can out about this particular tea. *drool*
