The pics are nice, but I don't do speechless.
At the moment, I am Euro brewing 2005 DeHong "Golden Melon," the 500 gr tuocha. It's acceptable ... just.

Last night I started a session with the 2005 Lao Ban Zhang Raw Pu-erh that was "was never sold as Guoyan's own production." Now that was some serious cake!

Yuan Nian "Vista" cake 2007

Astringency - medium strong
Smoke - some
Dryness-(mouth) - some
Mouthfeel - medium
Hui gan - could not detect any
Flavor - fair
Overall value - can't really say yet
Purchase again - yet to be determined

First off this is not the 08 version like Polyhymian's cake. I thought about getting that one but didn't. The cake has medium compression and pretty easy to pry away whole leaves. The brewed leaves smell amazing. However the tea is a bully. The flavors seem to stay together in the middle and therefore not differentiating themselves. Some smoke, leather, earth and quite astringent. Seems to have enough backbone for some aging....which it needs. This one is going back into the pumidor for a long nap.

Thanks for the good wishes, the teatray is an inexpensive one from Scott at YS. It works OK.

OK. So we are different. :) Hope that is not a problem. :p

Today, I dug out a piece of an 06 Lao Ban Zhang beeng from Scott. Took about 3g and decided to brew the tea in my favorite old gaiwan. The tea cake has been broken up and stored inside a zisha container for the last 3 months under humidity conditions of 70-80. So, this is what I got.

Astringency - not noticeable
Smoke - none
Dryness-(mouth) - none
Mouthfeel - lingering fresh floral
Hui gan - nice flowback after going down
Cha qi - Weaker compared to the 06 LBZ 100g brick
Flavor - Smooth and bitter turning into sweet as the back of the tongue starts to salivate
Overall value - 4 out of 5
Purchase again - OK to buy some if price is acceptable

90% of us are, so don't be shy. I had some of this Long Yuan Hao also and found it nice, but not extraordinary.

Just about to go into my cup: DHP. Makes me feel guilty that I am neglecting my pu, especially since today's mail brought me

2008 Xiaguan FT "Nan Zhao Round Cake"
So what do I drink while I catalog them? Wuyi Yan Cha! How uncouth!

Now that's my kinda tea order!

Please tell me how the DHP is, where you got it, and if it was worth the price. I even like the bad ones! I can't say the same for Rou Gui though... :(

That order was heavily influenced by you and some other denizens of this forum.

The DHP is the YSLLC Big Red Robe that Trioxin sent me a sample of and I went bananas for it. I got the 250 gr package @ $22 ($19 if you know the secret handshake), but it is also available in a 100 gram size. It's pretty good, but if you factor in the price, it is very good, lots of chocolate and vanilla notes, and at this price I'm not afraid to load up the gaiwan like you're supposed to.
