aroma cups

by trent » Dec 7th, '08, 22:09

I recently tried having tea w/o an aroma cup for about a week, and it felt like I was missing an appendage. In my opinion, I can't fully enjoy the aromatic complexity w/o one.

Do you use an aroma cup?

Yes, I love tea aromas. I use them primarily for greener oolongs it seems. Plus, I enjoy using them, tbh.

I used them one time for sencha, I doubt I will try that again anytime soon.

I don't have one, but I'd love to get one. I already have the tiny Chinese teacups (http://shop.andaotea.com/products/ancie ... inking-cup) that are generally used with them, I believe.

Why never with sencha again? Was the grassy smell overpowering?

Yeah, I love sencha, love aroma, but I guess it was too much of a good thing because it was just NOT pleasant, "overpowering" is a good word. Plus it just isn't necessary to elevate the intensity of the aroma of sencha, IMHO.

I've used aroma cups once, in a teashop, and it was great. But the lid and intermediate cup give me the necessary aromas. Both distinct.

Once I empty the pitcher I usually smell it, it really adds to the experience, I will buy aroma cups soon.

I've got some, but I rarely use them. I can't describe aromas well so there's not much use.

Aroma and tasting cups usually come together in a set. The tall cup is the aroma cup.

I don't have any, but I have used them. I like practising one more tea related skill.

I am not really good enough at aroma cups yet to be able to enjoy them, at the moment it feels like overall they take away from my tea experience because I am fumbling around with one extra thing.

But I generally enjoy a simplified tea set. I don't filter my own tea, and often skip the Gongdaobei unless I am making tea for guests or tea shop customers.

I do not filter my tea too, with good quality tea and a good quality (handmade) Yixing pot you don`t really need the strainer, there are only very small leaves, after a few infusions there will be none at all.
