I was wondering what anyone has tried in these regards. I was looking at these few things to order from scott along with a tea table I want from him:
2008 Menghai "Springtime Water" Raw Pu-erh tea * 500g
2008 Menghai "Da Yi Jia Ji Tuo" Raw Pu-erh tea * 100g
2008 Menghai Tea Factory * 8582 * Raw Pu-erh Tea cake
2008 Menghai Tea Factory * 7582 * Raw Pu-erh Tea cake
2008 Menghai Tea Factory * 7532 * Raw Pu-erh Tea cake
Please let me know what batch you had also. I looked around the threads (Ok, so I didn't really look as much as I could have ) and didn't find any reviews on any of the 2008 menghai recipes. Thanks everyone in advance!
Re: 2008 Menghai Classic Recipes
You can find some notes on these in my blog (shameless plug, but relevant http://teajournaling.blogspot.com), but some quick notes anyways.PolyhymnianMuse wrote:I was wondering what anyone has tried in these regards. I loved the Springtime Water for it's value. Great tea for the price. I have a bag of the Jia Ji tuo's, and also a few of the 08 Qing tuo's on their way, so when those arrive I'll update my blog. The 8582 I don't care for drinking too much now, it's a finicky brewer but a proven aged classic. Can't go wrong there. Loved the 7582, a little smoky, in a good way, and overall fairly tasty. Also fairly sweet. The 7532 is my favorite of the Menghai recipes, absolutely delicious. Aged it's quite tasty as well. I'd also recommend the Big Classic, the 0622, and the Da Yi Hong.
All teas I tried were of 801 batch numbers.
How could I forget the 7542! Fantastic tea as always.TomVerlain wrote:I just received the 802 8582

Other have tried it too. While you "could drink it now", I kinda feel it was designed for a bit of age before consuming.
Thought it was a good enough value to buy a tong. 7542 is not on your list. That is a classic as well.
Thats what I thoughtthanks wrote:A copy-paste mistake, it's a raw recipe cake. The 7452, however, is ripe.PolyhymnianMuse wrote:
I completly missed that one. I must have overlooked it, its listed on YSLLC as "Classic blend fermented cake " but then it also says that it is a raw cake
WTF? lol
I'll have to pick up one of each to try...

Had this one 5 mins ago.

Overall I dont dislike the tea. I noticed a bit of sourness in the first 3 infusions. But then it seemed to mellow pretty nicely. It got kinda floral, but I really didnt interest me too much. I use it as a general drinking tea.
I wish I had the ability to guage whether or not it would age well!
