Yes. This is my biggest fear. I knew this when I started dreaming it up, but it is very hard to have both. I surely needed something as my house is extremely dry for around 6 months a year. I will always be in there fondling my cakes, so I am hoping this is going to be sufficient.
Thanks everyone for all the nice comments!

Wow, that turned out really well!

I'm thinking I need to get a dedicated storage unit for all these cakes I am accumulating, and it sure seems like a great option.

How big is it, then? :D

Drax,
Outside dimensions are 23(w) x 25(d) x 48(h). This is one of the medium size ones. He will make you any size you want.

<jaw drops>

Unbelievable. That is simply too cool.

Would you mind pm-ing me the price as well? I've literally tried everything to raise the humidity (octopus method, sponges, etc.) and nothing really works. Even with the creative methods, my humidity is seldom above 55%. This looks like a great option.

Thanks for sharing.

That is just lovely! I wish I had a nice spot like that to build up a nice collection of cakes. I am also curious (forgive my nosiness) the pricing of something like that. Did he build the entire thing, adding all the gizmos and everything? It looks perfect forpu and good quality work. I think jesus would be proud :wink:

Yes. Everything is included in the price. Gizmos and all. As far as pricing is concerned, they can range from about $1k to $10k. I paid on the bottom end of that spectrum, so $10k is like a double door closet size model with fine hardwoods. Depends on wood choices, options, etc.
Thanks again for all the nice comments!

Nice! Bravo!

Does it smell overly like spanish cedar or any other type of resin wood?

My guess would be 'no'. . . .

Sounds like a smart wood choice!

It is Honduran Mahogany on the inside and has some odor as any new wood will, but it is nothing compared to spanish cedar or pine when new. I am sure that once it is half full of cakes, it will be overtaken by tea.
