Hello Darjeeling lovers!

Greetings fellow Darjeeling lovers!

I stumbled upon this forum after I got my first taste of loose leaf
Darjeeling and wowww how can a tea without sugar taste sweet like this??
I didn't know what I missed after years of horrible teabags.

I'm intrigued and googled around, Darjeeling is described to have a
"muscateel" taste. Ah so there are actually varieties of tea!

And Darjeeling itself I found out have many varieties - Poobong,
Goomtee (having one now), Sungma, etc.

I hope I can better enjoy my Darjeelings after joining TeaChat! :)

One question, what's the recommended water temperature and steeping time
for Darjeeling?

Welcome!

Temperature 85 to 95°C (185 to 200°F).
For steeping time, it depends on the tea. I usually start with 2.5g for 100ml (3oz) 3 min

All I knew of Darjeelings before Adagio was teabags, and I had never really experienced the muscatel you mentioned. My first Darjeeling from Adagio was #22 and I thought hmmm, nice, but it didn't floor me. Then I discovered what I call the "greener" darjeelings, which taste much more like an oolong than a black tea. I've found several from Adagio that I love (Spring Darjeeling, Darjeeling #1, and my favorite, Oooh Darjeeling). This led me to also explore other vendors... my favorite so far is Tea Emporium which ships Darjeeling to you directly from India. I'm a green/oolong/first-flush girl all the way!

Welcome!! I love Darjeeling too! While looking around on the black tea forum, check out the Nilgiri thread. Nilgiris are similar to Darjeeling, but often milder. They also have great flavors.

And don't forget to try Oolongs!

Olivierco, wow, that's a lot of leaf! :shock: I haven't ever tried it that strong before. I tend to do that amount of leaf for 6oz (same steep and temp range).

The temperature is 212, just like all blacks and oolongs.
