Asian grocery store green tea....

by Warden Andy » Apr 10th, '06, 21:59

Recently, I bought a good amount of green tea from an Asian grocery store, and I noticed that a few of them have the smell of glue or some kind of chemicals in them. Does anyone know if that is normal for low quality teas, or is their some kind of chemical (pesticides?) on the leaves?

Some green teas have a bit of a chemical smell, but if it is extremely strong I wouldn't trust it. Brew a cup and see if the smell remains, if it does toss it. try to find places that sell tea in small amounts so if something is wrong you aren't out too much money
Life is like a cup of tea, savor it slowly or it will be gone too fast

I won't be surprised if there's a weird smell. You may wish to rinse before you brew for real to see if it goes away. If it doesn't.... oh well, that's Asian grocery store tea for you.
