steeping silver needle tea bag

White and yellow teas are among the most subtle.

Is this an Adagio bag? And how much water did you use?

With most of my whites I try and brew about 160-165 Fahrenheit for about 2.5-3 mins......Im not sure how much this compares to the amount of tea in adagio teabags as I do not use bags at all, but, if you want to correct your bitterness problem drop your temp into the mid 160's steep for 3 minutes and you should be good to go!

I am guessing the SN teabags have less than 3 grams of leaf in them, so I would try a little longer, 3-5 minutes. Like Nick, I also tend to brew SN at a lower temp as I like the delicate nuances this produces, usually around 165ish* in a preheated brewing vessel or cup that is around 6 ounces. If you do not preheat, go hotter, around 175-180* as the water temp will drop off immediately.

Silver Needle is a good candidate for bags since the leaves, or in this case buds, do not expand hardly at all. So, as long as the bag is big enough, you should get decent results.

Did you say Silver Needle in a teabag?!!?!!?!

by Susana » Feb 11th, '09, 12:03

I will be honest. Silver Needle is my favorite white tea BY FAR so it hurt me to see Silver Needle and teabag used in the same sentence!

I think the experience, both flavor and visual, is lost in the tea bag.

All of that wonderful Bai Hao, I think, would be absorbed by a tea bag.

One of my favorite morning routines is to start out my day by making Silver Needle in my favorite little glass teapot. I love looking at the needles stand straight up and see all that Bai Hao floating around!

That's just my personal preference. Unleash the power of the needle!
