straining tea

by teachat » Jun 8th, '05, 18:59

hi, i just started making tea and i have a question... it may sound silly! i have been using loose tea in a pot that has a little strainer built in the spout, and using a little cup strainer as well. But I still end up with little floaties and dust in my tea. Or lots of floaties when i use black tea! It doesn't bother me, but I am planning on having a tea party and I am not sure if this is expected or not when you make loose tea.

thanks!

Stas--

Thanks for the post.

This used to be unavoidable, until the advent of paper filters. With these your tea will be floatie-free and delicious. Here is the link:

making tea bags

There is a material that looks more like tulle or slightly a bit like mesh. I have seen tea bags made out of it. Is it tulle? If so what is used to seam the sides? Or does any one know what the name of the material is or where I can find it?

Shauny--

Thanks for the post.

The material we use for our teabags (which are shown above your name on your post) is nylon. There are many different ways that these can be sealed. We've found that the most effective way is through ultrasound.

Hope this helps,

I am looking for silk or nylon tea infusers that I can fill with my own blend of teas.

Any suggestions where I can get them?

Thanks

Collins
