Re: silly question...
The Wikipedia article on Rooibos has the phonetic notation for the word. My linguist friend said that one would pronounce it like "roy-bos" with the second syllable of the word sounding like 'boast' without the 't'.teatotaler wrote:How do you pronounce rooibos???

I don't drink it. After my first trip to China I was SO enthused about tea. I came home and bought 3 cans of 'red tea' to renew the relationship with my new found friend. First cup... YAGHHH! That tasted NOTHING like the red tea I had in Nanning!! Second batch... UUGGHHHHH! That was even worse. Further examination of the packages revealed that the 'red tea' I had purchased wasn't tea at all, it was the product of some sort of shrub from southern Africa.
Just too much of a shock to my system (and my taste buds)... I've never tried it again.

So true. I was suffering from "Newb Disorder", a illness in which over-enthusiasm leads one to do irrational things.Mary R wrote:Heh heh...yeah, you really can't drink rooibos thinking it's going to taste exactly like tea. It's enjoyable...but it's got a profile all it's own.
I check labels now....

I believe we finally decided on "poo er", here is the other thread discussing this pronunciation
