Celadon Show and Tell

Here's a new addition to my pesonal collection. It is a ru kiln teacup made by Wu Yuanzhong from Taiwan. I really like his work. This piece is a bit funkier than I normally like, but it just talked to me. It has a stylized plum branch with blossoms on it.

I'm looking for the Xu De Jia celadon cups. In the internet I found his celadon only in http://www.houdeasianart.com. But everything sold. Do you know other places with his work?

Thanks everyone--it was a stroke of luck to find it, and I'm really happy to have it--especially since this set is replacing a rather ugly old thrift store kyusu.

I recently received a large haul of stuff I bought off of an auction site in Japan. Here's one of the more interesting (to me) items I got... a celadon houhin (houbin, 宝瓶）.

I'll try to get some better pictures this weekend after I have a chance to clean it up. I won the auction at $12, and with all the fees and shipping costs, about $25 total to get it into my hands... not too bad.

Make sure you take pics from different angles when you do, I'm trying to puzzle out that lid handle.

Will do. Best as I can tell, the shape on the lid is a hyoutan (a calabash gourd).

I didn't get a chance to clean the houhin, but I did take a couple more pictures to get a feeling for the lid...

It's a neat little pot. It does have one crack forming on the rim, but otherwise in great shape. No maker's mark anywhere, though... even the bottom is 'filled in' with celadon (the interior part of the bottom ring).

I visited the St. Louis Art Museum while I was home for Christmas this year, and I made sure to take pictures of their various teaware. I'll try to share more later, but while this one isn't tea ware, it is a celadon piece, and it talks about a specific type....

I couldn't recall having seen a discussion on this style of celadon before, nor the name "eel's blood." In any case, I thought it was particularly interesting because along with the above houhin, I had bought a new cup with this exact same coloring (which I will also share later...)

I just received this is a new celadon cup from Wu Yuanzhong. It's awesome! It feels so good in the hand and has a bit of weight to it. The glaze is full of crackles which will stain quickly, I hope.
