Today I had tie luo han from jing in several celedon cups. The tea is about $29/100g. The cups are about 17.50 each so the tea wins by about 2X as much. Now if I figure the cup set that I used then the cups would win.

Today, the cup is more expensive. I'm drinking shizuoka daily sencha from O-C at $12 per 100g in a relatively inexpensive hagi yunomi from AN. If I'm drinking favorite varieties, the price is about even. I only use this cup currently with sencha. When drinking oolong I usually use smaller chinese ware and the tea is always more expensive than the cups.

Varies: yesteday a nice Da Hong Pao from Norbu was more expensive than the 'built-in' cup part of my thermos. Today, Lemon Myrtle Rooibos from the Cultured Cup, very comparable in price to the simple glass mug; now TGY, also from Norbu, in my ''In Praise of Shadows" TC SO cup, and the two were very nearly the same price. Later, since my cold seems to be preventing me from enjoying the highlights of this lovely tea, I will probably go with my SeaDyke TGY, which will be cheaper than most of the cups I am likely to drink it from. I've gotten tiny samples of very aged puerhs from Essence of Tea that might be more expensive than my priciest cups, but I'd have to recalculate all the prices involved from Euros, and that's more trouble than I want to go to today.

Don't know if ya'll have noticed; if a TeaDay Poll requires anything to do with math, I don't answer!! Too much like work for me.

I've bought expensive Tea AND expensive TeaWare.

Here's a ha-ha moment from yesterday; on my fav local TV news hour, they covered a TeaRoom in Knoxville, TN, about 30 minutes away. I was so excited, they had hundreds of teas, teawares, etc., had tastings, etc. Imagine my disappointment as a TeaChatter when they announced the name as

No tea yet today so I´ll update later to say which way it goes today but...

none of my cups are really very expensive...the priciest is probably my chawan but 100g of most matchas can beat it

I think the only time the tea really ends less expensive than the cup is when I´m drinking young big factory sheng in one of my Petr Novak cups...

The tea is definately most expensive. The cups i use most often came as part of a tea set i got at pier one for $10 including teapot so the cups are probably $1-2 My most expensive tea cup is one i got at a good will store for $4. I think i have only one tea that i paid less per 4oz/100g than $4 and thats just because it was 1/2 off at special teas clearance sale.

I would really like some nice teacups and often drool over the SOs but just cant justify spending that much money on a cup.

Starting out the teaday with 2008 yiwu bamboo puerh from norbu, as late as it is, this may be my only tea today.

A pretty little porcelain gaiwan, a great little tea pet and some oolong (I'll have to ask IPT what kind because I have CRS! )

If I can stir myself, I'll do some pics.

Tea today was Nada's 2010 handmade Shui Xian. The price was about $5 for the 7g I used. The cheap porcelain cup from WHF cost a whole $2.

Winner: tea.

With me it's usually the tea! (and Chip, I never include the cost of shipping when determining cost.)

I opened my kirameki shincha today --finally made it out of the queue -- and it was delicious, brewed in banko and served in a Hagi wan from Deishi.

Definitely the tea! I've been drinking matcha all day, because I was craving it intensely for some reason, and the cup I've been drinking out of was a gift. It's an appropriate cup for the tea, though-- Japanese-style with an ukiyo-e print on it.
