I have an idea for you. this goes against everything i have ever learned about tea, but take a tbsp. of Assam and put it through a coffee mill to make powdered Assam, like black matcha. infuse this in hot water. because you are ingesting the powder it should give you that extra boost. not to mention a really really really strong flavor. Ive never done it before but i thought i might just give you the idea to try. however i do not blame you if you don't, LOL.

What a coincidence. My dad switched from coffee to Assam this week. He misses the caffeine, but feels warmer in the morning and he doesnt have bad breath.

I agree, Assam (from a region in Northeast India) is a great breakfast tea. Keemun can be good too, many traditional English Breakfast blends contain a decent amount of Keemun.

I am also partial to Yunnan, which is from the Yunnan Province in Southern China, relatively close to the Assam region. Both Assam and Yunnan have a good profile for breakfast- a bit of a malty flavor that yields a nice "kick" in the morning.

There is nothing like a good Assam or Yunnan in the morning, come to think of it...

BTW, shogun, your coffee-grinder-Assam idea sounds nuts ;) try it and get back to us. In any case, Assam has a decent amount of caffeine anyway....

Not a black tea of course, but I've found I really enjoy waking up to genmai cha in my cup. The roasted taste the rice imparts on the brew is very reminiscent of coffee for me, providing a good wakeup, though low on the caffeine if that's what you really want to pick you up.
