I am the current lone "smoky" vote. Anything that I've tried that smelled or tasted smoky just brought to mind kissing a cigar smoker or something similar. I do give bonus points for it making me think of cigar smoking vs. cigarette - cigar is the best of the two - but still, just not something I enjoy drinking.

Wedding tea this morning. I was in the mood to add a little milk and yum. Right now, chilled pi lo chun. Not the best ever, but pretty darn good.

Today should be interesting. VBS starts today so there are a good number of people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Thankfully I don't have to deal with the little monsters, uh children, running around. And, happy news, my new laptop is in and delivery was attempted today. So either DH or I will be picking it up at DHL today after work. YAY!Image

VBS? I found many meanings for this acronym. Which one is it?

Vacation Bible School it is. This year's theme is B.O.O.T. Camp - stands for Biblical Outreach something Training or something like that, but it is a military theme. The decoration is really pretty cute - boxes with stenciled-style labels of "Ammunition" and "Bibles", all the toilets are marked "Latrines", the volunteers are wearing camo and there is mosquito and camo netting everywhere. But yeah, there are still 200 screaming kids between the ages of 4 and 10 running around. I'm avoiding the main church building like the plague this week.

Here is my new cup and saucer from Tevana - in my cup is Beidou Yi Hou Wuyi oolong from TeaCuppa. See? I do like darker oolongs too.

After finishing my gyokuro Ippoen, I have just tried Uji Karigane Gyokuro "Asa-Giri" which I took of cold storage yesterday.

Image

I had four steeps (the fifth one was too weak).
8g 4oz 55°C (130°F) 90s 5s 15s 30s

You should be able to brew it 1gr/oz, but I prefer to drink gyokuro less diluted.

Not very expensive (25$/100gr; 2$ per session), this karigane gyokuro has real gyokuro taste. Less powerful than regular (high quality) gyokuro, the aftertaste is similar as the one you get from otsuusan sencha, also from Tsuen.

too many ocha haters on this poll, i personally have some love for that seaweedy taste of the sea. i had to go with vegetal corn-y myself, just cause i have no idea what that would taste like in tea, sounds like a weird genmaicha or something.

Ironically, I can smell nothing of consequence today. I have a full blown cold for the first time in years. Even the Hatsumi sencha has no aroma...it is amazing how no sense of smell affects taste. Truly remarkable...just as Joel was talking about yesterday(?).

I have to vote for smokey. A lightly smokey keemun can be tolerated on occasion.

Regarding marine. This is a hard one to nail down because we have different perceptions of marine. I have one Karigane Sencha that has an aroma like a tropical sea breeze...it just takes me there...I can call this marine and so beguiling.

Yet I have had some very strong marine smelling teas as well that I could enjoy much more than anything smokey.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

2 Foo dogs or lions (my mind is foggy and can't remember what they are), but only one cup? Well, I bet the cup is big knowing Victoria!

It's about 4" or slightly over 10cm.
