Re: Teaware Loss (Viewer discretion is advised)
RIP little gaiwan:
Victim of a walk-by from the cat, a slightly top-heavy design, and an unforgiving tile floor.

Suddenly our Shawn "gaiwan" has become a little rarer.
And another teaware feline assasination. I am guessing cats break more teaware than people.
Edit: I mean they break more teaware than people break teaware.

I say some cats need punishment...

Interesting question... anybody taken a spill from an under-foot cat?
Sorry to hear about the loss, debunix... that was a beauty...

Re: Teaware Loss (Viewer discretion is advised)
The cat in question was already 'punished'--I was off traveling twice during two weeks in a row, and just returned the night before. So my little shadow was sticking very close to me yesteday and today. And the gaiwan was close to the edge of the tea tray...which was close to the edge of the counter.....
The pretty little saucer actually survived, and will find some use.

Please, I have a similar problem - my favorite, best and most precious yixing teapot (80 years old excellent, really really excellent shui ping possible made by later grandmaster) had an accident and nov the lid is chipped and (the bad news aren't over) the spout is broken off.IPT wrote:Well, I have some good news for this otherwise depressing thread. I got my lid back and it has been repaired beautifully. The artisan who did it took over 5 months, but the quality of the repair is spectacular. I chose a matt silver repair. I did not really wish to hide the break, but celebrate its repair. The repair was so perfectly done that It feels like the lid was never broken at all.
Who repaired your teapot? Can you help me contact him?
Also, another of my teapots had another accident and ended with handle broken off... 60's handmade zhu-ni :-/
I need help, guys

I am so sorry, but I promised the person who helped me that I would not say who it was. I am really sorry, I know how it feels, but I gave my word. I have the website for the artist who did the repair on my home computer and can send that to you and if you have a contact in Japan, they might be able to help you contact him yourself. Send me a PM, so I do not forget.TuoChaTea wrote:Please, I have a similar problem - my favorite, best and most precious yixing teapot (80 years old excellent, really really excellent shui ping possible made by later grandmaster) had an accident and nov the lid is chipped and (the bad news aren't over) the spout is broken off.IPT wrote:Well, I have some good news for this otherwise depressing thread. On the first day of my vaccation I smashed the Gaiwan from my travel teaset.
And it has been its first time brewing. What a pitty for this beauty.

At least the little travel gaiwan got a chance to travel before it died.
Re: Teaware Loss (Viewer discretion is advised)
I don't think it is totaly lost. What glue would you use?

Oh nooooo ... your new kyusu? Spout?
Tip chips are common for me, unfortunately! The sound of when I have done it is unmistakable, sickening. I have done this usually during a split second of not paying full attention.
I have had best results by filing the spout with fine/extra fine diamond files, essentially shortening the spout and smoothing it out. I have saved 2 fave tokoname kyusu this way and fixed up a few others. I can not tell they were repaired.
The limiting factor is how much extra spout do you have.
Glue, not sure what to recommend since this is the spout.
