Bizen ware ho-bin depicting a kame (turtle). More specifically, the lid depicts a minogame; a sea turtle blessed by Kompira, the Shintō deity of seafaring people. With its algae "skirt", it represents longevity and felicity.

The yuzumashi is a random piece I found in a basket of pieces at the same tea shop.
The table too is from the same tea shop. The stone surface can be lifted (carefully) so that I can clean inside.
The cup/chawan is a shino I found in a random pottery shop I stumbled across. I had a pretty long conversation with the woman there, so she actually gave me a twin shino for my boyfriend as a gift (not pictured, obviously).

I took a few extra pictures of the cup, because I like the crackling that's happening.

Thanks to you both. If things go sour with the boyfriend, I'll be heartbroken to see some wares go.Takarabu... wrote:Ditto. Love the warmer!JeiKun4114 wrote:Beautiful wares karmaplace

What does the interior of the pot look like? The exterior of the pot makes me rather.... uneasy, if I were to brew tea in it.
The stamp at the base is just the name of the maker.

The interior is just dark purplish clay....it doesn´t have any of the white inside. I didn´t take interior pictures because the pot was full of leaves and I wasn´t done with them yet.MarshalN wrote:What does the interior of the pot look like? I´m not sure what the white stuff on the outside is...it appeared while I was cleaning the pot....it had a lot of what seemed to be ash on it.
There´s no bad aromas in the pot wet or dry or any off tastes or aromas in the tea.
The pot just smelled like wood ash when I recieved it.

So the pot was uniformly black when you got it? How were you cleaning it?entropyembrace wrote:The interior is just dark purplish clay....it doesn´t have any of the white inside. I cleaned it by soaking several times in hot water until the water cooled...then scrubbing it with a washcloth in warm water between each soak.MarshalN wrote:So the pot was uniformly black when you got it? it was covered with dark grey powder (I think it was ash) that rubbed off easily in the first cleaning cycle...but I kept at it for a while to make sure it was really clean. There was ash inside the pot too..but it wiped out easily.
