maybe not the best place to ask, but it seems like the most appropriate. how large are hagi? can the avg. male wrap his hand around most of the vessel? I drank out of a vessel tonight that looked like the hagi posted here, but it was smaller than I expected. Just curios.

They are as variable as any style/origin cup. I have small and large, too small and too large. Just depends on what you want. I usually go by diameter and shape as an indicator of "real" size.
I just posted a bunch that were "small" at 2.5-3" in diameter under Coloradopu's TeawareArtisan topic.
Then I have posted a bunch in this topic that are 3.5-over 4" in diameter ...pretty amazing how much a difference this inch makes.

It was unexpected because I never drink Japanese Greens at this place. (they bring out the appropriate tea set based on the tea and the region) So they brought out a kyusu and what I can only imagine was a hagi.

Just posted this in the Chawan topic, and I can't neglect the Hagi topic. I cannot believe I never shared this one here yet.
It is my fave (today, tomorrow may be different) Chawan, Deishi Loquat glaze, yeah another loquat. I sense a fragility to this as it is fairly thin walled and very course sand clay mix. The photo does not really do it justice.

Yes, it is gorgeous. It is also surprisingly light. I actually get a little nervous picking it up yet. Most of the Hagi Chawan are quite "sturdy" and not fragile. The thin walls and light weight are a constant reminder that this will be used less often.

Here's a pretty rare glaze by Seigan - this is a black glazed chawan called:
HAGI-YAKI KURO-KAIRAGI-YUU CHAWAN (Hagi ware black KAIRAGI glaze Teabowl)
It is predominately blackish/brown , but looking close up, you can see multicolors
in the glaze. The crawl of the glaze makes an interesting pattern.
