Official Pu of the day

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

2006 Yunhai Nannuo

I've been getting into aged/slightly aged sheng recently. This one is smooth and sweet.

Having a good session with the 2005 Naka. 5g, smoke, a hint of grainy sweet, some mouth drying astringency, good huigan. Grape/plum sweetness with later and longer steeps. When it comes to past sessions the astringency morphed into roughness/sourness in later steeps; not today though. As today and always: a clean liquor (despite above). Some of the traditional mild/heady calming sensations happening now. For the past couple of months been consistently starting my day with this tea, and while the somatic sensation can mellow me out I find I am still able to move and complete tasks the remainder of the day (not too tea drunk).

Taiwan-aged 7581 from the 90s. Best shu I've ever bought by far. I added a little water to a gaiwan on my shu shelf and it has been evaporating very slowly. I decided to empty it out today when I realized my shu bricks were moist enough that I could just snap off pieces! A little too humid, even for HK. I don't want mold or wet storage tastes, so I won't do that again. If anything, I need to warm my room up as it is cold up here in winter (55 storeys up). The tea still tastes great, but milder and smoother in zini vs porcelain or celadon.

2007 Haiwan 7588. I don't like this as much as the 7581. Something chemically medicinal in the aroma. All of my bricks are very moist right now because of the high humidity in my pu cabinet, so I'll have to give this brick another try when it dries out a little.

2005 CNNP Yunnan Green Label Pu-erh Chitse Beeng Cha.....earthy, sweet, mellow, anise. An older tea to break in a new Hagi cup. I think a small quantity of this one came from Essence of Tea. Lovely stuff.

2009 Menghai Lao Cha Tou brick. Really very soft, pleasant drinking. Gonna stick to buying Kunming dry storage cakes I think--they improve drastically once they hit the humidity.

Now I get why people here like shu pu erh so much. It's much easier on the stomach and much smoother drinking.

Absolutely. And on average a lot cheaper.

I seem to be most comfortable drinking shu now--anything else makes me somewhat uncomfortable in comparison. Green is second best.

Hi Jay.

To confirm what you just said, at the moment I am sipping 2002 Yong Pin Hao "Red Yi Wu Zheng Shan" Raw Pu'er from a Yunnan Sourcing sample.

Enjoying the ever-lovely 2008 Yi Wu bamboo-aged sheng from Norbu. A 1-cm tall cylinder has filled my 1 liter thermos twice with lovely tea, plus provided another couple of pints drunk fresh from brewing in a Petr Novak kyusu. This one is so reliably earthy-sweet that I hoard it a bit these days--so glad I stocked up after first trying it.

2014 Bada Lao Yu a la Chawangshop. My bargain sensors may be stoned.

90s wet storage 7581. This stuff had a light layer of mold on it when purchased. Tastes nothing like 7581 characteristically should. Served some to a HK girl and she loved it! Definitely HK-style bo lei. Tastes a little bit like storage, even several infusions in. Definitely a very aged feel to it because of the storage.

2005 Jingmai DianXin. Nice everyday drinking sheng from Chawangshop. I can't find this on their site now, so I guess it's all gone. This has had just the right storage to make it comfortable and easy drinking, even if it doesn't stand out in any way. Good calming cha qi. I definitely know what I like most in pu erh and it is tropical dry storage or light traditional storage. Too dry or too wet really isn't for me!

2013 Hai Lang Hao "Jun Yan Qi Xiang" Purple Pu'er tea. Probably one of the nicest young purple pu'er teas I have tasted but unfortunately it is sold out for a while.
