don't like the pot?
I like the shape. The texture of the surface makes me feel uncomfortable, is there a certain name for that technique in Taiwan?
yeah, i wonder if it's a new design/fad/concept, possibly unique to one artist or a handful of artists in Taiwan? i had never seen it before. i saw a few pots here and there in a couple of shops in Yingge (the famous ceramics area), but i didn't think to try to compare the bottoms of the pots from the different shops to see if they were made by the same person. There's not a stamp on the bottom of mine, but there is a signature along with a year (2014, iirc).

I wonder if the color has anything to do with it? If the pot were brown, the texture would have more of a bark appearance. If it were white, maybe more like cauliflower ( :D ). But in this color, the texture is... striking? Unnatural? Well, either way, definitely interesting. :D
it's cool how people see art (or whatever you want to call this) differently. to me, it has a very natural look. when i saw it, i was immediately reminded of cracked earth:

and so you see, it is a thirsty pot begging for me to brew tea in it and pour water on it.

a neat hand-made gaiwan set i got in Yingge:

extensively rice patterned

lens-like hexagonal cells. reminds me of an insect eye

the porcelain is very thin and light, but it doesn't feel super fragile. the guy was telling me that they are made of special material fired at a relatively high temperature. clacking them against each other makes a sharp snapping noise.

If the pot were the color of earth, I would agree, but it's a bit too red for me. Of course, I suppose it does remind me of the earth tones in Oklahoma....

Meanwhile, that patterning on the gaiwan and cups is freaky cool...!

The beehive set is quite interesting. Obviously they've got something besides rice to do the patterning there.....

Wow, that teapot is amazing! I like that only the central part is "rough", it looks better than if the whole surface was the same.

And that gaiwan set is also very nice! Almost a half/half mix of porcelain and glass ware... I wonder how it looks with tea inside? Do you perhaps have any pictures? :)

Aha! I definitely like it more with the browner tone.... much better vibe with the more earthy feel.

here's a fun little cheapy

i've seen this design in various places in China and Taiwan:

Image
whoops, should have used a narrower aperture.
sometimes it's hard to see the result on the tiny camera lcd. must not have zoomed in to check it out.

Image

it's cute because the head and tongue are both separate, captive pieces that move independently.

edit: volume is about 200mL. i've probably never used it, but it's cute.
