Scored a kyusu set on ebay. decided to clean everything by boiling. Kyusu and 4 teacups survived however yuzamashi did not:

Not sure what caused it, but the pieces thickness is not uniform. Just couldn't handle the stress. Might have it repaired using kintsugi, which is gonna cost me much much more than I paid for the whole set. To me it's worth it tho...

Some Japanese Teawares should be boiled, or at least soaked for extended lengths of time. Personally if anything has exposed clay, or in general is hagi, I feel a nice soak or mild boil is likely beneficial.

I do a soft boil with some types of Japanese teawares, slowly building up the temp. Once it reaches the soft boil stage, I turn it off.

However, I have already walked away and remembered a pot containing Hagi well over an hour later ... rolling boil the whole time. No harm done. Though I would not recommend this.

I think the biggest thing is slowly raising the temp, not dropping something into boiling water.
