Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Also, Drax, why wouldn't you recommend Koicha? Do you not think people would want a small drink? Have you seen matcha lattes? Would you use Koicha or usucha for that?
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Koicha requires a higher-grade (more expensive) tea. And you use more tea powder with less water, so the total volume is less. It would absolutely be on the high end of your drink price list, so to me it doesn't seem to be a place to start. But if you want to explore the range of price options, definitely check it out and try it out in different forms!
As you may know, you can actually serve high quality matcha as koicha or usucha. But the lower grades are typically only good as usucha (as they typically become too bitter if made into the higher concentrated koicha).

Another gyokuro morning....Gyoku-Hou from O-Cha, nosaka Shimizu Ken kyusu, Cory Lum bildoro yunomi ('beach')....tasty for the eyes and the palate

Drinking shincha I picked up in Okinawa...can't read the packaging, but it's very mild tea as far as flavor. Very smooth all around, sweet and umami, with just a touch of fruitiness. I bought it based on the pretty white and gold packaging, and it was the last bag of this kind left, so I thought I'd try it.

Drinking pouchong in Taipei. Walked into an old tea store and bought the best oolong, green and pouchong they had! Pouchong is pretty nice! Sweet and fruity. From the color I expected a darker flavor, but it tastes more like plums and peaches!

Drinking biluochun in Taipei. The first time I was here, I was severely jetlagged and the biluochun I had at Starbucks (of all places) perked me right up. Brewing this colder...Tastes good, but I think the leaves needed a little more heat. I'm torally into greens over anything else now, especially sencha. I think I burned myself out on oolongs somewhat...my body loves the greens!

As I said earlier on in another thread my Sencha stash has come to an end. Time to order some more but one of my colleagues has just returned from HK and brought me a packet with some teas inter alia Dragonwell, TGY, Mao Feng and Maocha. Right on time.

Drinking a nice BiluoChun from www.teasme.co.nz
I'm brewing it colder than I usually do and the flavour has blossomed, have to remember to let the jug cool a little longer next time too.

Going to be another fanboy/girl over the Kiri-no-Mori matcha from O-Cha. Really good stuff a great introduction to the world of properly done japanese tea ( before it was flavored matcha in a food blender and sencha from a gaiwan). Great umami (for me it is a combo of savory and sweet) and extremely thick. Also fun to prepare. Relaxing and simple!
