Horaido Shuppincha sencha in Hokujo shiboridashi.
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
A terrific session with O-cha Gyokuro Shou-en this morning. This is one of their less expensive gyo offerings, and I was initially disappointed. I've been testing different pots, and today I hit the tea brewing jackpot when I decided to use my Seong-il onggi hobin.
I'm glad that I bought two sets, blue for green tea and brown for yancha, so I don't have to worry about the u glazed innards affecting the flavor of the tea.

Last night...Kagoshima shincha I bought in okinawa. Brewed in my Hario kyusu maru. I'm in love with this thing! Used it for Taiwanese longing today and it was the best TW longjing session yet!
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
So I am almost out of the matcha I got from O-Cha, and I will be looking to get some more soon. The one from O-Cha, Kiri-no-Mori, was the first and only matcha I have tried thus far. Anyone have any recommendations for something to try that might be a little different? I'd like to try and develop my tasting profile for matcha some more. I really enjoyed the Kiri-no-Mori, and I'd like to see what else is out there.
I've seen some Hosuien matcha on ebay (Kokonoe and Ato-mukashi), and I know their matcha is good. I've also been looking at the usual vendors: Thes du Japon, O-Cha, Ippodo, etc.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
I haven't dabbled in Matcha...yet. I figure I drink Sencha daily, Gyokuro occasionally, and I drink a variety of oolong's, so it's hard to find time for another type of tea
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Thanks Kevin. Do you have any suggestions for later infusions? I feel like I am missing something when it comes to my second and third brews.Kevangogh wrote:Make sure you are pre-warming your vessels. You can take this gyokuro to 3 minutes if you do that and your temperature is low.GeorgeGR wrote:I noticed that you had posted about Gyoku-Hou earlier in the thread. Do you have any specific parameters for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd infusions? I just had Gyoku-Hou today and I used 4oz of water and 5.6g of leaf at 155F for 2 minutes for the first infusion. For the second one,I did closer to a minute at the same temperature. I would appreciate your input as I am pretty new to brewing Gyokuro.debunix wrote:Warmed up some Zairai sencha from OCha yesterday (it was in refrigerator). This morning, enjoying green liquid gold. Mmm. Sweet sencha start to the day.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for for my next O-cha.com purchase? I do prefer the grassy or vegetal taste in my teas, but I unfortunately cannot do a fukamushi.

5g Kin-no-Shizuku from Hirumaen in a Petr Novak shiboridashi 60-70ml. 55c/90sec. My reigning champion of all senchas. Shah of Shahs, King of Kings. An impossibly high standard reached that will instantly set off the lightbulbs in your mind.
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
How would one go about ordering teas from Hiruma-en? That would be Gokuchanin, correct? I've read about him and his teas on here a few times from some searches I did. Someone posted pictures of the tea leaves, and it looked gorgeous. If it's possible, I'd like to order some of his tea sometime. Japanese oolong sounds intriguing.Tead Off wrote:5g Kin-no-Shizuku from Hirumaen in a Petr Novak shiboridashi 60-70ml. 55c/90sec. My reigning champion of all senchas. Shah of Shahs, King of Kings. Thanks Tead I appreciate it. I've been to his site before to look at teaware but I suppose I never assumed he sold tea as well.Tead Off wrote:http://gokuchaninshop.cart.fc2.com/

Thai Nguyen green tea from Hanoi, via one of my sister's colleagues who gave it to my sister when she got back from Vietnam. Made my day when I received it as I was all out of Vietnamese green tea. Now I have over a kilo to drink my way through before my next trip there!
