Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
I set up my morning tea tray the night before, so the first thing is pouring water into the kettle, which is the first thing I do on getting out of bed.
Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
I always start with pouring water in the kettle and switching it on, then I pick a tea and corresponding teaware.
Enjoying some Hong Shui today.
Nice choices! Let us know how you like that purple Yiwu, looks interesting.entropyembrace wrote: 2003 tai lian yiwu brick,

Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
In the office, I use a double-walled glass vessel with a built-in filter to brew my loose leaves. I transfer the brew to a paper cup when it's ready. The good thing about using the glass vessel is I can heat it up with hot water beforehand and enjoy the aromas of the teas just before I steep them.
Typically, I use the same tea leaves for the entire day. That's about 3x 12oz cups. I come in the next day (or next Monday) and empty it for another TeaDay.

Enjoyed a mystery sample black tea today. It was very sweet and floral, heavy body. Really nice, whatever it was!

- My new "Hezi Chapan" (box tea tray) from Tao of Tea. Not the most finely made thing. There are burrs here and there between the slats, and the sealant covering the inside corners/edges is uneven and crackling in places. I may have to apply some acquarium silicone in the near future. A great concept, nevertheless, to combine a personal tea draining tray with a tea ware storage box on the go. 5"x5"x5". That's a 2 oz cup sitting on top for scale.

- Decaf fruit flavored black tea from Lupicia. Yes, lots of leaf bits in the cup. I didn't care. I don't like strainers. The snacks were yummy!

Well Tadpole, does this mean I have to show you mine?

Why, yes, I-Pee-Tea! It would almost be rude not to! Tadpole loves seeing other people's tea spreads. What kind of tray do you have?IPT wrote:Well Tadpole, does this mean I have to show you mine?

Ok, I'll have to work on that. I have two similar to the ones you showed. The tea tray in the bottom two photos is similar to the one I have next to me at the moment. I'm in the office. I have a square one like your top photo that I use for travel, but it was custom made for me by an artisan who works in bamboo. I didn't want it to split. I'll try to remember to get some photos for you this evening.
Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
Pouring water into the kettle definitely. In the the morning I come blurry eyed to the kitchen put water into the kettle, put it on the fire and then go to get washed up. Everything else comes later
Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
Oooooooo. Tadpoles are patient. I will wait for your pics! Custom made you say? Does the artisan normally do custom bamboo items? Sell a line of his own stuff? Would he refinish existing sort of damaged bamboo trays? Have a website? A phone number? Sorry...*simmers down*...tea drinking tadpoles are also somewhat neurotic when excited.

I bought a beeng of the purple yiwu a couple of months ago and like it very much. Fruity is a good description.entropyembrace wrote:The purple yiwu is very good, I´m surprised how fruity it is! Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
He doesn't do custom stuff. He owed me a favor. Honestly though refinishing an existing tray would cost a lot more in shipping alone, than a new tray would cost. Bamboo trays work well here because it's very humid, so they don't crack, but when you have central heat and air, they tend to always split. You can repair them, but they'll just split again. If you could find a bamboo tray with a plastic tray on the inside, it would work, but otherwise, they will eventually leak. You can find wooden tea trays that are quite nice with plastic trays for about the same price as bamboo ones. The plastic trays slide out the side, so that you don't have to remove all of your tea ware. You can just slip it out, empty it into a container next to you, slip it back in, and continue brewing. It works very well when you have guests. There are also trays that have a hose that drains directly into a container, but I don't like them. The hoses are clear and you can always see the mold that grows in them and it's kind of yucky. Plus, they always make a slurping sound.Tadpole wrote:Oooooooo. Tadpoles are patient. I'll try to remember the photos. If I don't get them to you, please resend me a note. I'm getting forgetful in my old age.
Re: Wednesday TeaDay 3/16/11 Start of the TeaDay
Thanks, IPT, for your 2 cents on tea trays. You're right about the shipping! I have seen some really nice ones with the plastic slide out drawer. I've also seen a suggestion to always keep a bit of water inside the tray when not being used, so as to keep it from drying out completely and then more prone to cracking.
