Re: Not my teaware.....but I wish it were....
For those of us who can't see that facebook page, is there a punchline? Or is this just an example of someone putting a ridiculously high price on a piece to make sure it doesn't get sold and remains listed there to advertise his wares?

The Yixing pot was sold in 2011 for HK $5.17 million. Roughly around US$660k

So it wasn't directly addressing the price of the chawan in the prior post...?

I didn't shout out the first time I saw this listing on Mago's eBay, in case someone was contemplating a sneak purchase at the last minute, but no one bid. Shocking. Check the image top right of the set posted with it--wow.
It's a gorgeous piece of bizen ware that I'm sure will feel great in the hand, much like mine...

Really lovely cup and a thoughtful consideration on your part not to make a shout-out in case someone was going for a stealth bid. Your cup and your pictures are wonderful. I suspect the seller would have had a less difficult time selling the cup if they'd have used photos of the quality you took of your personal cup. The tea setting and the natural light really bring out the subtle and intriguing details of the piece.debunix wrote:I didn't shout out the first time I saw this listing on Mago's eBay, in case someone was contemplating a sneak purchase at the last minute, but no one bid. 40,000 yen. I just can't justify the purchase with rationality, but my emotional side is telling me I must have it!
But this one is nice too.

I've been admiring that one for ages, secure in knowledge that admiring it was safe because it's not remotely cheap....

If only I had the spare money to buy Tony's work. There is something deeply sophisticated in the diversity and outcome of his chawans. I'd personally like to have this piece (https://www.etsy.com/listing/153571869/ ... avs_view_2) to witness the its interior filled with bright green matcha in contrast to the rich tones of the bowl. I wouldn't mind this one either (https://www.etsy.com/listing/153571619/ ... avs_view_8). And whilst were at it...why stop with two: I appreciate this one as well (https://www.etsy.com/listing/153565278/ ... avs_view_3).
Beautiful and masterly pieces!

This isn't terribly expensive as these things go, but out of my range at the moment. I dunno, I just so deeply love this; it's been on my wish list forever.
It wants fingertips.

Heh, too bad you are a bit late to the TC game. We had a Hagi SO where Eiichi made the ROCK for us. They were much less expensive and even cooler looking ... IMHO.kikula wrote:This isn't terribly expensive as these things go, but out of my range at the moment. I dunno, I just so deeply love this; it's been on my wish list forever.

Imagine having 20-25 ROCKs to choose from! At that time, Eiichi was done making the ROCK after he completed the SO, but I guess demand was too high to turn down.

Very sad to have missed that. And if anyone out there accumulated an overabundance of those items back then and would like to sell one at cost...
