Made from leaves that have not been oxidized.

Looks good. Most Kyusu's can work well with some with fuka technique, but that one you'll be able to pot dump (not that you should, roughly poured sencha taste rough) so you're good to go.

EDIT: I just bought that kyusu.
Good ... big enough for some TCer's to come by!

I had to choose between a cheaper, plainer one with stainless mesh over the spout (meh), this one with sasame, or a more expensive (and smaller) lefty one from Ippodo. There were also two left-handed ones on Artistic Nippon from an artist who passed, but they were the most expensive of the bunch. I don't know how much I like the chain motif on the kyusu I bought, but hopefully it grows on me! ;)

I wanted something with a smaller volume (150-200ml), but I guess I'll just have to drink more sencha per sitting! ;)

Nah you don't have to fill the pot with sencha. You can pretty much do what you want. 100ml of sencha in a 300ml pot works a treat.

+1. I never fill a kyusu and find they often work even better well below capacity.

The only problem (well, my only problem) is finding the self-control to not just keep pouring the water in!

My motivation is less water = stronger cuppa sencha!

Ya I realized I didn't need to fill the kyusu up all the way yesterday when reading through the long kyusu thread. Where's the sweet spot, around halfway?

I don't think there is a general rule of thumb sweet spot. So many other variables come into play.

I am usually in the 50-75% full range but sometimes less and sometimes more. A lot depends on the kyusu being used.

Half way is good.....3rd full is good......3/4 full is good......etc

Honestly it makes little difference. You may not want to buy a 400ml kyusu if all you do is brew 100ml but for me anything around 150ml-350ml is good.

I placed my order for this great looking kyusu just a couple of hours ago, and before finding this thread.

If any of you know of artisan lefty kyusu of this quality or better, please give me a pointer. Thanks!

Artisticnippon.com usually has lefty kyusu by Hokujo.
