Hello everyone,
I've been a hobby tea drinker for one year since my girlfriend introduced me to my first New York Coffee and Tea Festival in March of 2014. I enjoy making my tea via the gongfu method, and as a result I am primarily exploring green and dark oolongs and puerh tea right now.
For some time I have been finding the best answers to all my tea-related queries on this forum, and so I finally resolved to join!

Hi ByzanTeaum! I am new too. Any recommendations for tea shops in New York for oolong and puer? I have been getting my tea from online shops, but would like to visit a few tea shops where I can sample the tea before I buy.

Thanks everyone!
I have been to Ippodo before but I have never heard of either TShop, Fang or the Mandarin Tea Room! Now I will have to check them out
Wych, I often go to Harney and Sons SoHo on the corner of Broadway and Broome Street:

I first discovered oolongs with their sampler set which included roughly one ounce of formosa, fenghuang shuixian, wenshan baozhong and ti quan yin. They are always very courteous and helpful, and offer you a sample of any tea that you would like, which they brew for you via the western method.
Harney's oolongs are nice. I have only ever once tried their raw Pu-erh tea, which I cannot say was very pleasurable at all; in fact it was very fishy.
