Beginner to Kyusus - What tea can I use.

by GabrielTidswell » Apr 12th, '21, 03:49

Hi

I've been looking into Kyusu brewing recently. As someone who is new to this style I would love to know how particular you should be when reserving a clay Kyusu for a certain type of tea. Is it ok to brew lots of different green teas in a Kyusu, providing you only use green teas or do people just keep it to one specific type of green tea?

Also which teas lend themselves best to Kyusu brewing. I'm a big fan of genmaicha and hojicha but not sure if these are suited to a Kyusu?

As someone who is new to brewing teas in more traditional ways I would love to learn more.

Cheers

You should be fine to brew any tea in your kyusu, though they are most commonly used for Japanese green teas. They are generally higher fired, so they don't absorb the tea in the same that Yixing clay does.
