Wait, wait, wait. You mean those randomly 'missing' threads all over are NOT a conspiracy to show young female celebrities' love of tea?! And those strange names .. the one with V-something or the Cia-something ... they're not tea varieties?! I feel swindled by a forum members!

/sarcasm

Hmm. My problem is I can entirely see Adagio's point. One of the uses ofthis forum is to be a contact point for them (not that they don't have other, simpler ways, but still.) To require a membership approval might imply to someone trying to reach Adagio that they (Adagio) are trying to be difficult to reach (although the opposite is true.)

As in "Gee I missed blah on my order and I can't find the contact us button, I'll just post on the forum." "Wait a minute, why do I have to be approved? Maybe they missed something on purpose/their customer service sucks."

I'm not saying the lovely porn spam doesn't completely suck, I'm just saying I understand what Adagio's line of reasoning is.

Sometimes the balance between pros and cons swings dramatically one way or another. It is time to take ownership of TeaChat from the lowest life of cyberspace, spammers who thrust explicit pornographic photos onto an unsuspecting public, possibly one of the folks you mention would accidently open one of these posts, how would they feel then. I think many more people are offended by explicit pornographic photos than having to wait for approval.

What does this say about TeaChat, adagio, her mods, the membership. I feel everyone's reputation is tainted when these photos make their way onto TC.

The approval would not be required all the time...only as needed.

I have seeen forums that were spam wastelands and had to be abandoned because steps were not taken when they needed to be...or they were simply worthless. TeaChat is a great forum, let's keep it that way!

Yikes, glad I missed those threads. As everyone else has said, thank you Mod Squad for doing a great job and keeping TeaChat the great place it is!

Great news...temporary measures are now in place to greatly reduce the current problem. This is temporary but will be reinstituted as needed.

Adagio has again shown support and empowerment to her mods. For this I am very thankfull.

Still, TeaChat is part of the internet, so do not open suspiciously named topics, especially when they are by suspiciously named new members. Do not open links by new members...or do so at your own risk. When in doubt or if you want to report abuse, PM a moderator (Mary or me...or Xine as a last resort)

TeaPorn is again limited to "showing us your pots and cups." :D

Thanks Chip!

And thanks Adagio for listening!

This morning was a striking contract of peace and community Vs. chaos.

Glad to see some new measures were taken. I am not one who is easily offended, especially by stupid spammers, but I read TC over the RSS feed at work and there are times when I have had to be very very careful since all of the pictures would just pop up and you never know who is walking by at that very moment.

Wow, LP, that is a very good point. I wasn't even thinking about the RSS feeds.
Yikes!

Yeah, the RSS is a problem. Between Chip, Xine, and I, we can usually keep the boards at a G rating. Unfortunately, the RSS grabs all the spam and keeps it.

The new measures will cut that down a bit by nipping the problem before posting, so yay!

You mods are doing a fantastic job. It is VERY much appreciated!

I know this is coals to Newcastle, but here... have some tea on us:

Has anyone else here enjoyed the delights of the tea trolley, by the way? This is another British phenomenon, I think. Actually I'm from Canada, but a long time ago I worked at the University of Lancaster, where the arrival of the tea lady and her softly clanking trolley was always anticipated with great eagerness by the staff. (She often sold little cakes, too.)

Thanks for the lovely picture and tidbit. Almost as good as a refreshing cup of tea from the tea lady herself!

I hate to sound odd, but if one of the mods would like to contact me, I have some discussion I'd like to do regarding the spam situation here. I'm not sure it would be best for a public post, so I'll just leave it at this for now.

I just wanted to say "Thanks" again. I just scrolled through almost 200 posts on the RSS and not a single spam message was there. :)

That is fantastic!!! You have no idea how great that makes me feel. A few days ago I was soooo freaked and fed up tith the situation that I had a killer headache and literally felt sick.

Since we have required mod approval a few days ago, we have had over 175 spammers register. I suspect that the vast majority of these were from bots.

BTW, thanx for all the feedback from everyone. It is greaty appreciated!!!!
