Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
I have tried a few I liked, the only ones I could find that are available right now are these two:
http://yunnansourcing.com/en/yunnan-bla ... -2013.html-two from 2013 and one from 2012;
and the Simao Spring Tips. =)

Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
The wild tree purple varietal tea of dehong is definitely worth trying:

There are also some other versions, which I haven tried

(the description of the last one sounds delicious).

Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
I have a few bags of dianhong from YS open right now. Here is my advice based on what I purchased: skip the "black gold" tea, but the Feng Qing and the Mojiang Gold Buds are worth purchasing. I can't say anything about their other current offerings, as I have not tried them.
Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
If you haven't purchased yet, I'd highly recommend the Jin Jun Mei. This has very fuzzy leaves as you can see here
although my picture doesn't quite do it justice. Also, the tea is quite tasty too. Taste and aroma reminds me of an assam I've had, but this is far more refined.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, JJM is not a Yunnan Dianhong I don't know if this is important to OP though, as I don't know whether OP is looking for authentic Yunnan Dianhong or not.PurplePotato wrote:If you haven't purchased yet, I'd highly recommend the Jin Jun Mei.
Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
Real JJM is very rare..and the price is almost not affordable.Poohblah wrote:Just to make sure we're all on the same page, JJM is not a Yunnan Dianhong I don't know if this is important to OP though, as I don't know whether OP is looking for authentic Yunnan Dianhong or not.PurplePotato wrote:If you haven't purchased yet, I'd highly recommend the Jin Jun Mei.
I heard JJM doesn't last long over multiple brewings, as they are just spring tips, I've always thought tea's quality and durability is not much related...

Our very own Tim has some real (at least, I assume it's the real thing) JJM... for the curiouschrl42 wrote:Real JJM is very rare..and the price is almost not affordable.
Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
Given the price, and the quotes around the name at the YS site, I naturally assumed it was not genuine. But as long as the tea tastes good and the price is reasonable, I don't really care much whether or not the tea is 'fake.' And with YS, I can expect the tea to be good.chrl42 wrote:Real JJM is very rare..and the price is almost not affordable.Poohblah wrote:Just to make sure we're all on the same page, JJM is not a Yunnan Dianhong I don't know if this is important to OP though, as I don't know whether OP is looking for authentic Yunnan Dianhong or not.PurplePotato wrote:If you haven't purchased yet, I'd highly recommend the Jin Jun Mei.

For what its worth, this tea did not last me as long as some other high quality blacks I've had. And given that the tea is pure bud, I brewed it strong then I generally would (Both due to buds being generally stronger and the ability to fit more buds than longer leaves in a pot).

I wasn't talking about YS, I didn't even click on that link.PurplePotato wrote:Given the price, and the quotes around the name at the YS site, I naturally assumed it was not genuine. It's just that, most of JJM on Chinese market are not real.

Re: YS black teas - what to get ?
Thanks for this - I have a son-in-law who prefers black teas and needed to put together a nice Christmas gift. I've been focused largely on oolongs all year so this was a good help - I've enjoyed other teas from YS. Threw in a nice little teapot, too - it's really fun to buy for those rare tea- buddies.
