Interested in a Puerhshop tasting?

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

Interested in a Puerhshop tasting?

by Wesli » Apr 10th, '08, 01:02

The idea of a collective tasting and reviewing of some of Puershop's cheaper teas was brought up by Salsero here.
Ideas were tossed around on how to organize such an event. Ultimately, I thought (Puerhshop owner) might be interested in lending a hand by organizing a small package of samples for the tasting.

SO here's the thread where we can organize our ideas, share opinions, and credit Salsero for the great idea! Who's interested? Things to discuss: how much would we want to spend on such a package? How many samples? Are there shops other than Puerhshop people would rather solicit the help from?

I think this is a great idea. I'd also want to throw http://www.houdeasianart.com into the mix and see what they could offer.

HouDe would be great, some better-known factories....

The price, however, would be significantly higher for HouDe.

It can take forever to coordinate a group to go through a lot of samples. I suggest 4-6 samples. Cost? I dunno. I think that's up to Puerhshop. The max cost of 6 samples from Puerhshop should be around $22.

Puerhshop has an interesting selection and cheap samples. I say we stick with them for the time being. I'm particularly interested because I've tried very few of their teas.

Other thoughts: sheng and shu pu'er? Response method via blog or on here? We might get a better deal with Puerhshop if we limit this to bloggers and sell it as discounted or free publicity?

I am new to tea in general, and am very interested in Pu-erh and this thread.

I would like to participate, if this is OK with everyone.

I am a complete newbie to pu-erh, but judging by reviews and descriptions this type of tea may do very well for me. Tasting group is exactly what I need.

Edited to add: I don't have a blog.

Wesli, will you contact the pu-erh shop and arrange for the sample pack?

I will. I'm trying to get an idea from this thread of what we're looking for.

I agree with Bears that 4-6 samples will be best, as we don't want so many that we become entirely backlogged on tasting. We can expect fair samples if we go for a price near $20.

Hahahahahaha.....

Okay, as I was writing this, I went over to puerhshop, and get this...

I think we've been getting spied on! :D :D

Amazing! They are on the same wave length with us.

I like "Best of Puerh Shop" and "Taste of Mellowness."

I want them all -- will go along with the majority. Then what? We post reviews here? This is soooo exciting.

We'll get all puerh'd up! Nothing can touch us then.

(BTW, I noticed today on Yunnan Sourcing that Scott has quite a few bings at around $10 and under. I have never bothered to sort by price.)

These tasting kits make our logistics very simple. We don't have to figure out who and how will divide the cakes. No sending samples from person to person around the country. Right? We can just order the agreed kit individually and start brewing.

Perhaps, we can organize reviews by starting a thread for each of the pu's.

That's the idea, and in some cases, this could have even gone international.

To organize the tasting notes, I think it would work out great if we had a sticky thread for each tasting. This would give us a permanent home, here, for our notes and discussion. It would also allow any newcomers who want to participate to simply do so, months, even years after the initial start of the tasting.

I also want to add that if there is a tasting on a certain kit going on, it's perfectly acceptable to only buy one or two of the selected teas and still participate in the sharing of notes. This will help people with even less expendable incomes, and will also be good for people who don't have infinite time to write on the teas they get.

There will be no sort of "submission date" for the tasting. This is a stress-free, fun thing for us to do outside of work, school, and whatever else brings us down. If you find you don't have time to post your thoughts, don't worry about it!

For this tasting, I'll cast my votes for "Year of Green Puerh," and "Taste of Mellowness." I believe this puts "Taste of Mellowness" in the lead!
