2006 Yong De sheng puerh from Norbu, a pretty braided cake that delivers pleasingly mellow tea, trying out my new raptor houhin from Greenwood Studios. So far, excellent match of tea ware and tea.

2003 HK Henry. I imagine this was a really rough tea to drink when Houde first stocked it. The acidity is still very present in the throat, similar to a bad shot of espresso. Not that this is a bad tea, just needs more time to smooth it out. I'll have to remember to try this at Henry's next time i'm in HK and at a shop in Taipei that has it.

Today I am enjoying some of a 2008 Yunnan Sourcing Wild Tree Raw Pu-erh tea brick of Dehong. I have yet to try more than a few pu-erhs but this has been the best I have tried so far. As for my ratings, they are as follows:

Astringency - some
Smoke - none
Dryness-(mouth) - some
Mouthfeel - heavy
Hui gan - strong
Flavor - somewhere between good and excellent
Overall value - excellent
Purchase again - absolutely

The most noticeable things about this tea in my experience are the very thick and smooth/almost creamy texture of the brewed tea and its strong hui gan which leaves a lingering cooling sensation in my mouth after a cup or two. There is no dryness of the mouth at first after drinking this but rather a sensation almost like a hydrating coating that is left behind with each sip, once that passes however, a dry feeling enters the mouth but not an overpowering dryness. Overall I find this tea to be delicious and pleasant to drink.

Today, a soothing presence in my thermos for the afternoon: 2007 Rui Cao Xiang 'Wu Liang Wild Arbor' Sheng, which tolerates even the abuse of being brewed for the thermos with gently earthy warmth and sweetness.

This morning, still good taste left in the 2006 Yong De from Norbu, brewed a few infusions here, a few infusions there, for 3 days now. I'm loving the tea, and the great little houhin from Greenwood Studios that I'm brewing it in.

something I found in a clay jar today while looking for something else. no idea where it is from or how long I've had it. pretty good stuff though - my guess is some 90s shu brick broken up with maocha from around the same time mixed in. I do stuff like that sometimes, or did anyway. rock on pueheads.

One of those Xiaguan Xiao Fa Tuos that's annoyingly without imprints, dates or any info at all except a CNNP wrapper. A few steeps in - quite a rich mouth feel, sometimes tangy, deep red in colour, and a hint of camphor :?: :roll:

Enjoyed a long session today with the Menghai Golden Needle White Lotus puerh, after a fortunate session with the letter opener aka puerh pick yielded a good quantity of tea from the very very dense brick. Warm, caramelicious, plummy, earthy. Always a hit with me and my office tea-buddies.

2010 Jingmai Gushu from Bannacha. This stuff is good... and it makes you feel quite good! Lovely long lasting sweet aftertaste.

A while back I got some of the various Mao Cha from Norbu, just to have around and see what would happen to them.

Today, I found a medium sized bag full of the 2007 Yong De that had been in my 'more humid than not' storage area.

It was flat, bland, boring, but it had darkened a good bit. I found out that if it was really pushed hard that it started to give out some flavor. On the bright side, the liquor was super smooth. Regardless, I'm still going to hold on to it until 2017 and see what happens. Peace.

I just went back to my records and checked--the Yong De from Norbu that I was referring to was 2006 harvest, a braided beeng, so not the same as the 2007 that you describe. This one is mild enough for me to enjoy drinking it now, which may well make it too bland for some hard-core pu-heads, but that mildness, and the gorgeous look of the braided cake, were what drew me to it.

Yesterday, and this morning, reviewed a couple Pu-erhs:

2009 Menghai 7562 - Really enjoyed it. Beautiful cherry-sweet/woody/earthy scents. Flavour profiles ranging from earthy to slight sweet undertones. May consider getting a brick.

2007 Menghai 'Jade Dew' - Didn't think it was anything to write home about, but fairly OK. Deep chocolate liquor, light qi around the neck. Sweet and earthy smelling.

Once these samplers are used up, I may carouse some sites again and pick up some new ones to try. Suggestions are always welcome. :)

2010 XZH Man Ning Gu Cha -

Musk and mushroom are the dominant flavors but blends into grain like notes as the session progresses. Decent chaqi and mouthfeel...though it seems a bit on the simple side overall.

some ???? dayi old tree something something. Tasty. On day 3 and still thick and strong... I can't get over how 'twiggy' this tea is, half branch chop.
