Hello, everyone.

by tealeaf » Jul 26th, '09, 10:44

Hello All!

My name's Joss. I'm originally from the UK, but am currently living in Siegen in Germany. I work at the university here, researching private and anonymous communication systems.

I'm a dedicated tea drinker, having struggled my way up from endless cups of sugary, milky Assam since I was young. These days I mainly prefer a variety of Chinese green teas, but also enjoy Earl Grey and Lapsang Souchong. I can't claim to be entirely free from the need for a cup of Assam with milk from time to time, even though I gave up the sugar years ago. :)

Apart from that, I'm very interested in China and Chinese culture and have been studying Mandarin for about four years. I like to play Go; and I also play capoeira, which is a Brazilian martial art.

I'm used to being the resident tea obsessive in most other forums or places that I visit. I'm looking forward to being the beginner here. :)

+1.
Sometimes it's exactly what I need. Brewed strong like death.

Welcome!

Wow, that sparked a memory! I went to the Festival au Desert in Mali in 2006, and spent a month travelling there. It's probably well-known here, but I remember endlessly going through the three brewings of tea in Mali: strong like death (fort comme la mort), soft like life (doux comme la vie), sweet like love (sucre comme l'amour). In the sun, in the desert.

Remembering that has really made my day. :)

Welcome, Joss.

I, too am a student of Mandarin. Also a (very slow) student of other Chinese languages or 'dialects' as they are sometimes called.

I hope you enjoy Teachat.

Haha! Right on, same here!

I do use sugar VERY seldom though, but only in masala chai.
