Hi all. I am new to this site. Hoping to make lots of new teachat friends. I used to drink a lot of loose tea...before all the new teas were out. But that was last century
. Now I might as well consider myself a loose tea virgin again. I just got some Adagio teas as a gift from my sister and am still trying them all out. I am getting confused as to the "one teaspoon" measurement...is it heaping, is it a measuring teaspoon, is it level...help
I am in Florida, Married to a great guy and we are proud parents of 2 very spoiled German Shedders (Yes, shedders).

Used to live in Fair Lawn. I personally know Ilya Mike and Sofia (I used to play with video games at Ilya's house when we were kids) I talked to Sofia when Adagio was just starting out and wow, how it's grown.
I have just tried Gunpowder last night, and I am still undecided if I like it or not. So far, I have tried The Earl Grey Bravo (TO DIE FOR). The sugar crystals are great and I tried the Wild Strawberry...a little tart without sugar. What else??? or the white bloom was great for peresentation as well as the taste...I am trying to get myself to try the chocomint (I think that's how you guys spell it), the scent is so overpowering in the can, it overtakes everything else in the box, but I will try it this weekend. I am still trying to figure out what I like and not like.

I just got here a few days ago myself! You'll love it- some really great people on here! So where in Florida are you? I moved out of South Beach a few years back because I was getting into way too much trouble
Beautiful place though! I can relate with those shedders..I wear my St Bernard and chihuahua everywhere I go! I'm serious! I have to change clothes twice a day at least and I have taken stock in those rolling sticky thingies!!
As far as a teaspoon, I am very casual about it and use one but let it heap when it wants to...not real strict on it...especially with the bigger leaves cuz they dont fit anyway...but overall "about" a tsp. But I'm still a novice so I can't really stand behind that except that its workin for me. Its all about taste..if its too strong, put less leaf in next time...too weak, more...
So whats in your cup? Are you hooked yet?

Welcome to the forum.
Teaspoon measurements are always kind of vague, made worse by the fact it varies from tea to tea depending on leaf size; their is no consistancy. It really just depends on your preference, how you like your tea.
I do reccomend getting a measured tea spoon, so you will have a base point of reference and go from there.

My all time Favorite is and always will be (I think) Earl Gray (Grey?). I can't stand Lipton. Till I rediscovered Loose teas again, I was drinking the Twinings Earl Gray for the Tassimo Machine. (basically like a Keurig--one cup at a time thing, but better) and I think I may be spoiled now on the Earl Gray Bravo.
I actually took one of those t-Discs apart to see what they actually use as tea...and it looks like pulverized brown "stuff". There is no semblance of a leaf anywhere in there. What a difference knowledge makes.

I roughly level my teaspoons, and use an exact measuring spoon. Measuring leaf amount is mostly for experimenting and finding your favorable amount of leaf.
Some things to consider:
- Rolled teas are packed tight, so one tsp turns out to be more.
Large-leaf teas don't fit on a teaspoon so well.
White tea doesn't fit well either.
I've ended up eyeing leaf amount. Some do the same, some use teaspoons, some use scales.

Welcome Inna! And welcome back to loose teas.
Lots of people around here like to used scales and weigh their teas. I'm not so precise. I use teaspoons and do it strictly by taste and it depends what mood I'm in as to whether I use a level tsp or heaping. Lots of greens and oolongs don't lend themselves well to that, so it's more a judgment call. I'm sure the folks in the green area will guide you well.
