Green Dragon (Anxi) ToT

This is my review of Green Dragon Oolong from the Fujian province. It is of the "Ben Shan" variety which is known for it's exceptionally strong branches. This particular brand (The Tao of Tea) is rolled & curled.

I brewed 2.5tsp in 30oz of water (filtered & mineral rinse) for 4 minutes.

The resulting brew is exactly what I would expect from an Oolong. A (well balanced) black/green hybrid. If I didn't brew it myself I would swear someone mixed the 2 & handed me a cup.

I get vegetal & slightly leathery notes.
Almost as if a sencha was placed into a leather satchel & sent to me. A bit if briskness but not terribly tannic. Very mild sweetness, almost like smelling an apricot pit...but not tasting it.

IMO, a dash of honey probably would enhance the fruit note & bring it to the forefront.

I paid about $10 for 100g at a local World Market. Nothing offensive about this brew, nothing terribly distinctive either. I think it would be good with food like stir fry.

The second steeping of the leaves was better than the 1st. I'll drink this again when I want tea & don't crave anything specific.

5.4/10
