Dong Ding competition tea 2017

by Bok » Jul 11th, '17, 01:11

Just in case any of you is interested how the official competition tea of the Lugu's farmer association looks like...

Father in law gave me this box which he was gifted in turn: this years competition N.2! First place is usually auctioned and normally not affordable nor is it probably money for value, too hyped.

This 2nd place is still expensive for Taiwan, but probably not so much compared to what people outside of Taiwan pay.

Looking forward to open it and compare with my other Dong Ding's.

Cheers!

However, I am not holding my breath – ages ago I had another of those “official” tins and it wasn’t spectacular… competition winners are always only the best of the participants, others can’t be bothered and just do good tea

But hearing the price it cost, I am thinking it should be decent enough :D

Interesting cultural thing about how I got this box in the first place: A lot of people in Taiwan always stick to their guns, they always drink the same teas from the same vendors, rarely venture outside of their habits. So this tea was passed on to me

Nice. :D Let us know how is it. Is it green or roasted? What is the standard for Dong Ding in Taiwan these days?

Haven’t open the tin yet. But it would not qualify as Dongding if it wasn’t roasted. As to the degree of roasting I would say nowadays mostly medium.

Some of those still pack a lot of green-power, got an unknown Dongding-style tea from a friend – if I brew that tea I am still awake at 3 in the morning and having crazy dreams!
