Finally getting to enjoy some tea! 
No pretty bfast today as I was gone all morning on a fieldtrip w/daughter's preschool. Am experimenting again w/the sakura sencha. Had to toss the first two steeps--they had the usual "green" taste that I don't like. The 3rd & now 4th steep are pretty good. Contrary to the advice given (thanx anyway LP & Chip), I'm finding lower water temp helps improve the flavor for me. Guess I just gotta be different!

An ideal vendor would carry 50-100 teas. But sometimes more choices are not a good thing & can be confusing, especially if just starting out. And the ideal vendor would also offer every tea in a sample size. I hate potentially wasting money!

Almost forgot!
In 9 years, I have seen a lot I guess. Early on I was too naive
and felt a vendor with a billion choices was for me.
Then I began to notice major freshness issues.
In 9 years I have certainly become a self confessed TeaSnob.
I like what I like generally, though I will try anything
and am willing to admit other teas into my cupboard.
Give me specialization anyday.
I still need variety, but it can be limited.
Kirameki shincha (of course) in my cup so far.
Every steep is a pleasure, just nothing to offend at all.
It is ashame it is only around in the Spring and
O-Cha does not offer anything comparable the rest of the year.
I guess this makes it that much more special.

Well I would ideally like a place that has variety and also a specialty as well. I was just in Ito En, many nice teas. The point is that they are by far a superior carrier of the sencha and gyokuro teas, but they also carry some nice oolong and black tea as well.
So I guess if NYC had a shop for pu-ehr and a shop for oolong, then we would be all set. haha
So anyhow, I had my first Gyukuro, it was an Uji hand picked single estate.
I love this tea!! Anyone else have nice recommendations?

O-cha Uji Gyokuro Kame-Giru-Shi
Ippodo Ippoen or Tenka ichi (very expensive though for the second one)
Personally I find myself liking Yame Gyokuro over Uji Gyokuro. The Yame Gyokuro Vil. Hoshino from Lupicia was pretty good. Bassaro's Yame Gyokuro offerings were pretty good(if you can get them from France). Aside from that you're probably going to want to order from either o-cha, zencha.net, or one of the more direct stores from Japan, although I hate their shipping costs. With the exception of hibiki-an.
Personally I like to try out other vendors even once I have found ones of quality that I like.
