Are you referring to the Aged WenShan BaoZhong 1982 from Red Blossom? I have some of that and I feel that it is a nice drink, but not anywhere near nice enough to justify the price of 44¢ a gram.

Thanks for the Jing suggestions. I will add them to my shopping list.

The TeaCUppa Da Ye is the bomb.
My favorite wuyi. But yeah, I've liked all the
wuyi from there.

Salsero wrote:Scruff, do you have any suggestions of things that R_S might enjoy in the dark direction? I was thinking of Da Ye from TeaCuppa ... Bai Ji Guan from TeaSpring ... but maybe those are too light. TGY from Just4Tea, maybe... Do you have any solid wuyi suggestions ... you've been drinking a lot of yan cha lately right?
scruffmcgruff wrote:Yes... I suppose I could contribute something helpful, if I must. :) I haven't tried the Da Ye, but ABx likes it and he hasn't given me a bad recommendation yet.

Jing Tea Shop has some great Wuyi teas; their Shui Jin Gui and Lao Cong Shui Xian are both solid teas with good flavor; not the most complex perhaps, but delicious nonetheless. They have a lot of other good ones too, but these are the two I recall off the top of my head as having really heavy and dark flavor. Good values too, IIRC.

Teacuppa has great Wuyi too-- their rou gui, da hong pao, tie luo han, and lao cong shui xian were all good, IMO. I was disappointed with their bei dou and shui jin gui, but everything else I've tried from them has been great.

Also, the aged baozhong from Red Blossom is yummy if you want something dark but a little different.

Hope this helps!

You're very welcome. Just come back when you're ready for the debt counseling sessions.

I have always felt that tea, like water and air, should be free. So far it doesn't seem to be working that way.

My favorite for this month was definitely from Taiwan, the 90s Aged Nan Tou from Hou De. Even the 2008 Nan Tou and Adagio's Oolong #8 ranked high for me this month. I guess I may have to order more sencha next month to off set this month's oolong favorites.

Today was White Peach to get me through work. I ended up deciding on the 2005 Shui Xian Wuyi, also from Hou De, for an after-dinner drink. The toasty, smooth flavor just hits the spot right now.

Tastes clearly change quickly here. Japan won a similar poll only months ago.

Finished my TeaDay off with Houjicha...toasty.
