From the seller's website,

Nowadays, most of Tokoname pots are made of ready-made clay. However, the clay used in this product is made in a traditional method. The potter makes it from raw materials by elutriation which is different from making it by milling. He just agitates and strains the muddy clay in the morning and evening every day for a few months. It creates the fine texture. He dries it out in unglazed bins and on the shelves for another few months. We asked him why he puts so much time and effort. What is the difference from the ready-made clay? He answered with a smile “Well, I don’t think there is much difference, but people say that tea gets delicious.” He might be right. It might look the same, but the precious earth helps on brewing exquisite-tasting tea and provides people a sense of contentment.

Where do you live in Thailand? I'll be there for Aug. - Oct. 11 with 12 day break in Taiwan.

I'm in Bangkok. I believe I'll stay in the city during that time. Let me know if you'd like to meet and have some tea. :)

And I'm thrilled with it! I've been jonesing for a small, "legacy" rihi hon shudei kyusu with either a ball or sasame filter (not a fan of flat holes) and this fit the bill nicely. My guess is that this will pair with gyokuro to a T. Thanks so much!

Looks like the teapot has arrived safely. :)

I feel that the flat teapot gives a thicker body and more balanced tea compared to a taller one - probably from the fact that all the leaves are equally exposed to the water.

Anyway, play with it and see how it goes. Enjoy! :D

It indeed arrived safely. I won't be playing with it for a few weeks because I'll be in and out of town but thanks for the heads-up. Balance/thicker body are right up my alley. Thanks again! :D
