Ferg: FS - Yamada Jozan III

by Ferg » Sep 18th, '17, 20:01

Up for sale is a shudei kyusu by Yamada Jozan III, aka Minoru Yamada, a Living National Treasure.

Difficult to believe, but I've decided to let this one go. It is a thing of beauty to behold. Unfortunately, I have not found much use for it as it's far too large for my personal use. Upon time of purchase, it was advertised to me as 170ml, but to my surprise clocked in at nearly 340ml. Rather than return it to the vendor, I've decided to put it up for sale here on TC to keep it within the community.

The clay is something special, slightly porous I believe, compared to harder shudei Tokoname clay. Surprisingly, or perhaps not so, I've only used this on a handful of special occasions over these past few months. While my hands don't shake holding it, I've been terrified of breaking it. Don't think I could forgive myself. Hence, it's primarily sat upon my closet shelf allowing me to eye it daily as a beautiful work of art.

However, it's time for the Jozan to move on. And I could use the extra cash at the moment. Due to a collector purchasing multiple pieces at one time, including this kyusu, I was able to purchase for the cool price of $600. Asking for $500. I will also throw in the 1980 Tokoname Teapot Maker's Directory for free. They both arrived on the same day, from separate vendors, and I feel like they belong together. Sadly, I haven't had the time to take additional pictures and post up in my only created thread. Perhaps someone can pick up and carry the torch for me.

Cheers and enjoy the pics!
